Boston Celtics vs. Milwaukee Bucks Preview

The Boston Celtics (18-12) host the Central Division-leading Milwaukee Bucks (21-9) in a game with two of the Eastern Conference’s top five teams. The Celtics could use a win tonight after dropping their last two, and the Bucks would love to extend their win streak to four consecutive games.

Back on November 1, the Celtics came away with the first win of the regular season series 117-113. Kyrie Irving paced the Celtics with 28 points, but they had to get past Giannis Antetokounmpo, who finished the game with 33 points and 11 rebounds.

Then, the Celtics needed to connect on a franchise-record 24 three-pointers in order to get past the Bucks and secure the win at home. That win put a halt to a 7-0 start for the Bucks to start the season, so Milwaukee will likely be looking to avenge that loss in TD Garden.

Celtics Analysis

Boston CelticsThe Boston Celtics were rolling on an eight-game win streak before they went on the road on Saturday against the Detroit Pistons, who have played spoiler to a few teams’ winning streaks lately. They hoped to get back on track and seemed to have the perfect opponent to do so in the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday, but Devin Booker and Co. would not go along with the plan and handed the C’s their 12th loss of the season 111-103.

Now facing the number two team in the East, they won’t catch any breaks, as Al Horford and Aron Baynes are out, and Marcus Morris is questionable. That leaves the Celtics incredibly thin up front, where they’d normally rely on help to keep Giannis away from the rim.

Look for the Celtics to go to a small lineup, likely inserting Jaylen Brown in the starting five to try and harras Giannis on defense. If they want to get back within the top three of the East, the Celtics will need to protect their home court against a potent scoring threat.

Bucks Analysis

Milwaukee BucksAfter losing to the Pacers on December 12, the Bucks have won three straight over the Cavs, Pistons and the Pelicans, with Giannis Antetokounmpo squaring off against Anthony Davis.

The Bucks got off to a blistering start and never looked back, scoring 33 points in the first and fourth quarters for the 123-115 win. Aside from Giannis, who had 25 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists, they had a total of six players in double figures, and three other players who scored nine points.

George Hill had his best game since he was traded to the Bucks, scoring 11 points in 29 minutes and shaking off the rust from his shooting slump.

Second-year Bucks power forward D.J. Wilson also seems to be turning heads lately as he’s seen a boost in minutes and is being given an opportunity from head coach Mike Budenholzer. It’s been a silver lining with Ersan Ilyasova out due to injury. He’s had nine points in his last two games, and also added 10 rebounds and a block against New Orleans.
