Milwaukee Bucks vs. Charlotte Hornets Preview

The Eastern Conference’s top-seeded Milwaukee Bucks (34-12) will take on the Charlotte Hornets (23-24) tonight at Fiserv Forum in what could be a playoff preview.

The Bucks have been one of the hotter teams in the league, winning five straight and eight of their last 10, which has been good enough to give them a slight lead in the Eastern Conference rankings. The Hornets have won their most recent games but are 5-5 in their last 10 and are sitting at seventh in the East.

The Bucks and Hornets last matched up on November 26, with the Hornets taking the win 110-107, overcoming a near triple-double by Giannis Antetokounmpo, who had 20 points, 13 rebounds and nine assists. Instead of Kemba Walker leading the Hornets, as he has on most nights, it was Jeremy Lamb leading them to victory with 21 points and eight rebounds.

Milwaukee will be looking to avenge the loss and take the season series lead 2-1.

Bucks Analysis

Milwaukee BucksWhile the Bucks have won their last five, they have come against sub .500 teams. Their last statement win was against the Rockets back on January 9.

In their most recent 116-106 win over the Dallas Mavericks, they had six players reach double figures in scoring, led by Giannis with 31 points, 15 rebounds and five assists.

The starting backcourt tandem of Eric Bledsoe and Malcolm Brogdon has continued to play well for the Bucks and coach Mike Budenholzer. They had 21 and 19 points apiece on Monday.

George Hill continues to struggle for consistency as he is averaging the fewest minutes per game he has played since his rookie year in San Antonio. He has also played with a rib injury, and while he’s been up and down in terms of scoring, if the Bucks keep him around, his addition should pay off in the playoffs.

Hornets Analysis

Charlotte HornetsWhile the Hornets are not where they’d like to be, it’s clear coach James Borrego isn’t concerned about standings, however the Hornets have won four of their last five games.

Kemba Walker is having a career year in Charlotte, and while there have been some reports of interest in trading for Walker at the trade deadline, the Hornets are hoping to lock him up this offseason.

He had 22 points and seven assists in their 118-107 win over Memphis on Wednesday night.

Tony Parker, who has served as a mentor and someone Walker and several of the young Hornets guards have spoken highly of, had another turn back the clock night, as he finished with 17 points in 17 minutes. He’s had double digit scoring nimbers in three of his last four games, and Borrego hasn’t had to play him many minutes to do it either. In fewer minutes than he averaged in San Antonio last year, he’s averaging two more points and his assist numbers are slightly higher as well.

Jeremy Lamb has also turned into a legitimate number two option for the Hornets as he is also having a career year in Charlotte.
