Milwaukee Bucks vs. Phoenix Suns Matchup Preview (2/10/22)
Two of the best teams in the NBA square off on Thursday night when the Milwaukee Bucks continue their road trip out west in Phoenix. Since dropping a home game to the Denver Nuggets by nearly 40 points, Milwaukee has been scaldingly hot. The Bucks have won four straight against the Los Angeles Clippers, Washington Wizards, Portland Trail Blazers, and Los Angeles Lakers during that span. While they have not had to face a team with the caliber of this explosive Suns team, they still have won decisively and convincingly. For much of the season, Milwaukee has struggled to “get up” for games with mediocre opponents, which has, in turn, caused inconsistency. It’s promising to see the Bucks handle these lower-quality opponents by double-digit margins when they were such a hit-or-miss team before. Milwaukee has its offense clicking, scoring 131, 137, and 137 points in its past three games. Not many teams can keep up with the firepower Milwaukee has, and when it is on, there is no stopping it.
Meanwhile, the Phoenix Suns are putting together an unbelievable season. They have won three straight games (Philadelphia 76ers, Chicago Bulls, and Washington Wizards) and 14-1 in their past 15 games, which is by far the best record in that span in the NBA. The key to the Suns’ success is culture, which we have covered extensively, and clutch play: Chris Paul and Devin Booker rank towards the top of the NBA in clutch shooting. Of course, this is no surprise to anyone, but it is worth mentioning. This game should be tight between two of the best teams the NBA has to offer. Below is a full breakdown of what I think the outcome will be in this matchup!
Milwaukee Bucks vs. Phoenix Suns Betting Odds
Despite how well the Bucks have played in their past four games, look at who they have played. The Wizards, Clippers, Lakers, and Trail Blazers have some of the worst rosters in the NBA and have been an atrocity on the defensive end. Giannis will get his because there is no stopping him; however, the rest of the Bucks may struggle to score. I like the Phoenix Suns against the spread in this spot because of how consistent they have recently won 14 of their past 15 games. Their only loss was to a red-hot Atlanta Hawks team that shot at an exceptionally high clip at home. This will be a home game for the Suns, and they haven’t lost there since January 8th.

Milwaukee Bucks Starting Lineup
PG: Jrue Holiday
SG: Pat Connaughton
SF: Khris Middleton
PF: Bobby Portis
C: Giannis Antetokounmpo
Milwaukee Bucks Analysis
Milwaukee has shown a significant amount of maturity in how quickly it responded to an absolute slaughter by the Nuggets in front of its fans. This is the team that we have expected to see consistently for a large portion of the season; however, the ongoing pandemic, consequent health and safety protocols, and injuries have had a different idea in mind until this point. Additionally, Giannis is playing some of his best basketball ever, which is an unwelcome sight for opponents. Offensively, the Bucks have looked virtually unstoppable in their past handful of games, and while they have not yet faced a defense as strong as the Suns’ defense during this hot streak, it’s hard to imagine anything stopping them right now.
Phoenix Suns Starting Lineup
PG: Chris Paul
SG: Devin Booker
SF: Mikal Bridges
PF: Jae Crowder
C: Deandre Ayton
Phoenix Suns Analysis
What more could we possibly expect from Phoenix? If we are nitpicking, we could say that Deandre Ayton has been underwhelming at times this season, but the slack is always picked up from the other bigs on the roster, including JaVale McGee and Bismack Biyombo. The “next man up” culture is natural for the Suns, and it all starts with Chris Paul and Devin Booker, who have taken every lesson they could contrive from the NBA Finals last season and utilizing it. Booker and Paul are statistically and visually two of the most clutch players in the NBA and well on their way to leading this team to another deep playoff run in a few months.
Milwaukee Bucks vs. Phoenix Suns Daily Fantasy Picks
Few players “get up” for nationally televised games more than Giannis Antetokounmpo. Giannis is fresh off a 44/15/8 night in Los Angeles after an absolute dubbing of the Los Angeles Lakers in front of the entire NBA world. On the season, Giannis has averaged roughly 30 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists but has been playing even better recently. We have also seen that despite Phoenix having a great defense, it cannot stop Giannis throughout an entire game. It would not shock me if Giannis went for another 35-40 points in this matchup en route to putting up 120-130 points as a team. With the way the Bucks have been playing, this may become more of a regular outcome than a “hope.”
Four out of Devin Booker’s past five games have resulted in 30+ point performances. His efficiency has been exceptional, especially in the fourth quarter, where he has the highest clutch shooting percentage in the NBA. If Booker had been playing this well all season, he possibly could be one of the MVP frontrunners. In his past 14 games, Booker has averaged over 31 points, five rebounds, and four assists per game on 47% from the field, which is quite solid for a perimeter player. While Booker is expensive to plug into your lineup in DFS, he does bring consistent scoring with some rebounding and assists to boost his fantasy points. Consider utilizing him in your lineups and riding out this seemingly never-ending hot streak.
