NBA Trade Tracker 2020

Los Angeles Clippers, New York Knicks, and Washington Wizards (Feb 6th, 2020)

Clippers Receive:  Marcus Morris, Isaiah Thomas
Knicks Receive: Maurice Harkless, 2020 1st Round Pick
Wizards Receive: Jerome Robinson

Lineups Analysis: The Clippers get better, the Knicks get a first round pick, and the Wizards got nothing. Marcus Morris is going to add another body to the Clippers bench that is one of the best in the league. Isaiah Thomas is likely to be waived, so it will just be Morris sticking around. New York got a solid return on one of their many forwards they signed over the offseason.

Cleveland Cavaliers & Detroit Pistons (Feb 6th, 2020)

Cavaliers Receive:  Andre Drummond
Pistons Receive: John Henson, Brandon Knight, 2023 2nd Round Pick

Lineups Analysis: What a weird trade. Andre Drummond heading to Cleveland, which I am sure isn’t going to excite him. The odder thing is Cleveland still have Tristan Thompson on the roster. Detroit isn’t going to win this trade on paper, instead they just shedded a ton of salary as he was going to pick up a 28M option for next year.

Golden State Warriors & Minnesota Timberwolves (Feb 6th, 2020)

Warriors Receive:  Andrew Wiggins, 2021 1st Round Pick, 2021 2nd Round Pick
Timberwolves Receive: D’Angelo Russell, Jacob Evans, Omari Spellman

Lineups Analysis: This was one of the more eye popping trades of the day, and I love this for the Warriors. Golden State will get Andrew Wiggins and a 1st round pick for next year. Russell wasn’t likely in the long term plans for the Warriors, and this is a nice return for him. Minnesota will add D’Angelo Russell, which is who they have been after since the offseason. If this was about giving Towns a friend, they succeeded. If this was about getting better, I am not so sure they did that.

Washington Wizards & Denver Nuggets (Feb 6th, 2020)

Wizards Receive:  Shabazz Napier
Nuggets Receive: Jordan McRae

Lineups Analysis: After thinking Shabazz Napier was going to be a part of the Denver’s backcourt. That won’t happen, as he will head to Washington to join the Wizards. With McRae and Thomas gone there are some minutes open for Napier. With the Nuggets moving out some backcourt depth, no surprise to see them bring in Jordan McRae.

Philadelphia 76ers & Orlando Magic (Feb 6th, 2020)

76ers Receive:  2nd Round Pick
Magic Receive: James Ennis III

Lineups Analysis: The 76ers needed to get rid of a body and sent James Ennis to the Magic for a second round pick. After giving away a few to Golden State, they will replenish one of them. Not a bad move for either team.

Atlanta Hawks & Portland Trail Blazers (Feb 6th, 2020)

Hawks Receive:  Skal Labissiere, Cash Considerations
Trail Blazers Receive: 2nd Round Pick

Lineups Analysis: Skal Labissiere has been with three teams since last season, and he couldn’t crack the rotation. He will head to Atlanta, which has a lot of new front court members. He will try and assert himself there. Portland will add a second round pick.

Houston Rockets & Memphis Grizzlies (Feb 6th, 2020)

Rockets Receive:  Bruno Caboclo, 2nd Round Pick
Grizzlies Receive: Jordan Bell, 2nd Round Pick

Lineups Analysis: It was a quick stay in Houston, as the teams swapped a pair of second round picks. The Rockets will get a young wing, and send Jordan Bell to the Grizzlies. They add another young front court member to their team.

Los Angeles Clippers & Atlanta Hawks (Feb 6th, 2020)

Clippers Receive:  Cash Considerations
Hawks Receive: Derrick Walton Jr.

Lineups Analysis: Not the most exciting trade of the day as the Clippers get some cash and the Hawks take a body off their hands. This trade had implications for another one.

Miami Heat & Memphis Grizzlies (Feb 6th, 2020)

Heat Receive:  Andre Iguodala, Jae Crowder, Solomon Hill
Grizzlies Receive: Justise Winslow, James Johnson, Dion Waiters

Lineups Analysis: The Heat added a few veteran wing, and got rid of some players that just didn’t have a role within the rotation. Andre Iguodala wanted out of Memphis, and it is too bad the Dillon Brooks and the Grizzlies won’t see the Heat again this year. Jae Crowder heading to the Heat is another addition to their bench. It gives some depth. Memphis will get a change of scenery guy in Winslow, and hard to see Waiters adding much value.

Memphis Grizzlies & Minnesota Timberwolves (Feb 6th, 2020)

Grizzlies Receive:  Gorgui Dieng
Timberwolves Receive: James Johnson

Lineups Analysis: The Grizzlies have been active as they bolster their young roster. Gorgui Dieng is a great add for a team that is in need of a backup center. He can split time with Jonas Valanciunas, and also play a bit of the four too. James Johnson wasn’t here long, and Minnesota’s moves have been questionable over the past week. It is hard to see a direction.

Golden State Warriors & Philadelphia 76ers (Feb 5th, 2020)

Warriors Receive:  Alec Burks, Glenn Robinson III
76ers Receive: 2020 2nd Round Pick, 2021 2nd Round Pick, 2022 2nd Round Pick

Lineups Analysis: The 76ers got some much needed shooting for their bench. Both Alec Burks and Glenn Robinson can help in that regard. Golden State will bring in second round picks over the next three seasons. Not a bad haul for a team that has drafted extremely well over the last decade.

Sacramento Kings & Atlanta Hawks (Feb 5th, 2020)

Kings Receive:  Jabari Parker, Alex Len
Hawks Receive: Dewayne Dedmon, 2020 & 2021 2nd Round Pick

Lineups Analysis: Dewayne Dedmond is headed back to Atlanta. The Hawks just recently traded for Clint Capela, and this gives them a true backup piece. They cleared way for Jabari Parker and Alex Len who give the Kings some front court depth and can help fill in for the constantly injured Marvin Bagley. The Hawks also received a few second round picks to add to their haul. Certainly not a bad few days for Hawks fans.

Houston Rockets, Atlanta Hawks, Minnesota Timberwolves & Denver Nuggets (Feb 5th, 2020)

Rockets Receive:  Robert Covington, Jordan Bell
Hawks Receive: Clint Capela, Nene
Timberwolves Receive:  Malik Beasley, Juancho Hernangomez, 1st Round Pick
Nuggets Receive: Shabazz Napier, Gerald Green, Keita Bates-Diop, Noah Vonleh, 1st Round Pick

Lineups Analysis: The trade deadline is about to get rolling, and this kicked things off. Houston may not be done, but at the moment they are looking to play true small ball as they sent Clint Capela to the Hawks. They did get a great three and d wing in Robert Covington, and an athletic Jordan Bell. However, matching up against opposing bigs like Nikola Jokic or Anthony Davis in the playoffs will be an issue. The Hawks gained control of Capela for the next few years, and made another great add to their young roster. Minnesota gained a first round pick, and Malik Beasley is an interesting name to shake things up in the backcourt. The Nuggets moved around some of their bench pieces, and the highlight here is Shabazz Napier, who played well in Minnesota.

Golden State Warriors & Dallas Mavericks (Jan 25th, 2020)

Warriors Receive:  Second Round Pick
Mavericks Receive: Willie Cauley-Stein

Lineups Analysis: With Dwight Powell out for the year, Dallas opted to trade for Willie Cauley Stein. WCS was a free agent pickup this past season for a cheap price tag. He hasn’t shown much in Golden State, but will have a chance to play a strong role on a strong Dallas team. As for Golden State, this will open up minutes for Marquese Chriss and Omari Spellman.

Oklahoma City Thunder & Dallas Mavericks (Jan 24th, 2020)

Thunder Receive:  Isaiah Roby
Mavericks Receive: Justin Patton, Cash Considerations

Lineups Analysis: This move for Dallas has everything to do with the trade for Willie Cauley Stein. They will offload Patton to make from for WCS. Patton might be a name who gets claimed by a team in need of some center depth. Isaiah Roby is a young player who has some upside, and finds himself in Oklahoma City where is more likely to get a chance.

Portland Trail Blazers & Sacramento Kings (Jan 21st, 2020)

Trail Blazers Receive:  Trevor Ariza, Wenyen Gabriel, Caleb Swanigan
Kings Receive: Kent Bazemore, Anthony Tolliver, Two 2nd Round Picks

Lineups Analysis: A bit underwhelming from a trade standpoint, as Sacramento offloads the veteran Trevor Ariza. You would have expected him to go to a team primed for the playoffs, and Portland doesn’t fit that bill right now. Kent Bazemore wasn’t working in Portland, and will have a chance to turn things around in Sacramento. Anthony Tolliver will also be a nice depth piece for the Kings.

Atlanta Hawks & Minnesota Timberwolves (Jan 16th, 2020)

Hawks Receive:  Jeff Teague, Treveon Graham
Timberwolves Receive: Allen Crabbe

Lineups Analysis: A familiar face returns to the Hawks, as Jeff Teague will move over from Minnesota. The Timberwolves wanted to shake his contract and open more minutes for younger players. On the flip side of this one, Teague will give some veteran leadership on a very young Hawks team. He will likely see some backup minutes behind Trae Young. Allen Crabbe can give Minnesota some shooting, but shouldn’t see a ton of time in the rotation barring any sort of injury.

Utah Jazz & Cleveland Cavaliers (December 24th, 2019)

Jazz Receive:  Jordan Clarkson
Cavaliers Receive: Dante Exum, Two Picks

Lineups Analysis: With Mike Conley on the shelf for a bit, and an injury prone history, Utah shipped a former top pick (Dante Exum) to the Cavaliers, who already have a ton of guards. Utah tossed in a few second round picks via other teams, so they are not giving up a ton here. They will receive Jordan Clarkson, who will bring some bench scoring and depth to the backcourt.
