New England Patriots vs. New York Jets Matchup Preview (11/9/20): Betting Odds, Depth Charts, Live Stream (Watch Online)

If Saints-Buccaneers is the main course, we are getting nothing but a pudding cup for dessert on Monday Night Football. The Patriots will travel to face the Jets, who are the only team without a win this season. However, New England is now 2-5 and continues to struggle on the offensive side. Both teams are facing injuries to their skill position players, but even fantasy football matchups might not even keep people interested in this one. New England has largely dominated this series over the last two decades and oddsmakers view them as a touchdown favorite. It still makes sense, even with how bad they played, as the Jets are widely considered the worst team in the league. There really isn’t any debate for that. A low scoring affair is projected and I will be planning on catching up on some shows as I wait for Week 10. New England Patriots Analysis

New England PatriotsThe struggles have set in for the Patriots over the last few weeks as their record has taken a hit. It has been a very long time since they were sitting third in the division. The schedule lightens back up this week against the Jets where they should rebound. Unless Bill is slick and loses from here on out to get the top pick. Cam Newton now has two passing touchdowns on the year and seven interceptions. He has rushed for 298 yards this season and six touchdowns. Damien Harris has picked up the pace with Sony Michel on IR. He has 49 attempts for 279 yards and a score. Harris won’t offer up much in the passing game but weirdly, James White hasn’t either. Even in some favorable game scripts. This has been a bit odd. The Patriots overall are still allowing just 18.6 points per game but against better offenses, they have shown more vulnerability in comparison to last season. Throwing for 192 yards per game this season hasn’t been good enough to win. We have seen this unit hit their wall and that was predicted by some before the season.

New York Jets Analysis

New York JetsSam Darnold is questionable this week but has said he anticipates to play. Otherwise, this game would be over before it even begins. Darnold has been banged up this season and has missed time. The Jets are averaging 11.8 points per game this season, which is historically bad. Injuries have hurt them but this team is poorly run. Defensively after the offseason they had, they were not predicted to stop anyone. They are allowing 26.4 points per game. They are allowing 282 passing yards per game and 16 touchdowns, but the Patriots aren’t built to put up monster numbers through the air. The run defense has been average allowing 116 rushing yards per game and nine rushing touchdowns. The rushing game of their own is between Frank Gore and La’Mical Perine. They are rushing for a combined 3.6 yards per carry behind a bottom-ten offensive line. When healthy this season, Jamison Crowder has been solid. He leads the Jets in receiving yards with 383, and he has played just four games. Braxton Berrios, Jeff Smith, and Breshad Perriman have been in and out of the starting lineup. Denzel Mims has started two games now and is creeping into the offense.

Public money is heavily on New England this week, and that should be to nobody’s surprise. Even with the Patriots struggling, the Jets have been still miles below what the Patriots have done this season. Both teams have sub .500 records against the spread this season and the under has been favorable in this one. I expect the Patriots to run the ball quite a bit and get behind an easy win where they should still slow down the Jets offense. Both teams are averaging under 20 points per game this season and the under is 7-3 in the last ten meetings.

Daily Fantasy Picks

Luckily the main slates do not include this game but it would have been easy to avoid anyway. However, there is a primetime slate for both FanDuel and DraftKings. These games tend to be lower scoring, and you should also leave some money on the table if you are looking to take down a large field tournament. In this game, you are going to need to wait and see how injury reports pan out. The Jets wide receiver situation would be easier to layout if they were healthy. If Crowder and Perriman do not play. Berrios and Mims are back in play. Frank Gore is questionable and if he sits out, Perine is a name to watch out for. For New England, Cam Newton could find some positive play again against a Jets defense. With Harry questionable and Edelman already ruled out, Damiere Byrd and Jakobi Meyers are in play at wide receiver. Damien Harris is in an excellent spot if he is healthy enough to play. If not, Rex Burkhead and James White would split duties.
