New Orleans Pelicans at Memphis Grizzlies Preview
The Memphis Grizzlies will host the New Orleans Pelicans tonight at FedEx Forum, in what will be a Southwest Division showdown. Both teams are currently out of the Western Conference playoff picture and look like they are headed for complete rebuilds. The Pelicans have lost six of their last nine games, while the Grizzlies have lost 10 of their last 13, but it has been the trade deadline where these teams are getting the most attention.
The Pelicans have been dealing with the Anthony Davis trade rumors, and are limiting his playing time in order to not risk his trade value. Last night against the Timberwolves, Davis spent the entire fourth quarter on the bench and the Pelicans nearly blew a big second-half lead. The Pelicans did end up winning 122-117 with Anthony Davis scoring 32 and Jrue Holiday scoring 27.
The Grizzlies on the other hand, just traded away star Marc Gasol and now have a whole new cast of characters in Grind City. Jonas Valanciunas, CJ Miles, Delon Wright, and Avery Bradley are the new additions that will be around Mike Conley. The Grizzlies are coming off a 95-117 loss to the Thunder.

New Orleans Pelicans Starting Lineup
New Orleans played last night at home against Minnesota and entered Friday as the 13th in the Western Conference. New Orleans is a dismal 1-8 in the second game of back to back situations this season and will be looking for a victory after losing six of their last nine games. They are averaging 116.2 points on 48 percent shooting and are allowing 114.9 points on 46.3 percent shooting.
Even though he says he is leaving, Anthony Davis is still averaging 29.3 points and 13.3 rebounds. Jrue Holiday is averaging 20.9 points and eight assists, Julius Randle is the third double-digit scorer and E’Twaun Moore is grabbing 2.5 rebounds.
As a team, The Pelicans are shooting 35.1 percent from beyond the arc and 77.3 percent from the free throw line. Defensively, they are allowing 36.7 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 46.9 rebounds per game. Record-wise, The Pelicans have split their last eight road games. Randle and Elfrid Payton are questionable as they deal with ankle sprains while Moore is questionable with a quad injury.
This will be the Pelicans’ second game with Davis back in the lineup. Davis was booed by the home crowd when he was introduced in the lineup, and although he started and played in the game, he was benched for the entire fourth quarter, so his playing time in tonight’s game is still up in the air.
