Thursday Night Football: New Orleans Saints Starting Quarterback Vs. Cardinals

The current Saints starting QB for tonight is undetermined for the game against the Cardinals on TNF.

The New Orleans Saints will take on the Arizona Cardinals on the Thursday Night Football game. The Saints starting quarterback role has been up in the air this week. Andy Dalton projects to be the Saints starting quarterback this week despite the improvement in the health of Jameis Winston.

Andy Dalton projects to be the starting quarterback for the New Orleans Saints for the Week 7 matchup against the Cardinals. Dalton has played in each of the last three games, completing 63% of his passes so far this season and has a touchdown in each game. While the Saints are 1-2 in those three starts, they are likely opting to go with the Red Rifle this week against Arizona.

This might come as a surprise given Jameis Winston has been the starter when healthy, but with the back injury it seems he has failed to reclaim the Saints starting quarterback role. Winston has thrown for 858 yards and four touchdowns, but interceptions continue to plague Winston’s career with five in his last two games.

Given the turnovers, Dennis Allen might opt to go with the safer bet and without Jarvis Landry / Michael Thomas, Alvin Kamara has benefitted in the passing game more from Dalton’s short pass accuracy.

Andy Dalton Vs. Arizona Cardinals

While Dalton has struggled in primetime games, this is a spot where he can find some success. Arizona have some poor ranks in key statistics against the pass.

  • 24th Pass Defense DVOA
  • 19th Pressure Rate
  • 21st Yards Per Pass Allowed
  • 25th Points Per Play Allowed

Saints Vs. Cardinals Thursday Night Football Odds

The Cardinals are home favorites in a home matchup against the Saints and I doubt odds are going to shift with a quarterback change. DeAndre Hopkins is back, but the Cardinals did lose Marquise Brown last week to injury. They are still very thin but the matchup is easier with Marshon Lattimore being ruled out for tonight’s game as well.

Michael Thomas and Jarvis Landry are ruled out, which won’t make it easy on the Saints starting quarterback tonight. Chris Olave cleared concussion protocol and is due back tonight and is in a good spot against a Cardinals defense that ranks 24th in DVOA against the pass.
