New Orleans Saints vs. Philadelphia Eagles Matchup Preview (12/13/20): Betting Odds, Depth Charts, Live Stream (Watch Online)

The battle we have all been waiting for. Jalen Hurts vs. Taysom Hill. All kidding aside, the Eagles made the change for Jalen Hurts and this is going to be a nice change of pace from watching Carson Wentz. This team was going nowhere in 2020 with him under center, and somehow the Eagles are still in contention for the division. As for the Saints, they are looking to continue their pace to be the only team getting a bye this season in the NFC. Drew Brees won’t be back yet, but it sounds like he is close to returning. That means we will get another week of Taysom Hill. We can give credit to Sean Payton for putting together a strong gameplan for him. Vegas has the Saints as touchdown favorites, which is to nobody’s surprise. The defense has been playing very well of late and will have another chance to come away with a big game. New Orleans Saints Analysis

New Orleans SaintsNew Orleans has been on a roll and is now 10-2 on the season. They have allowed 20.1 points per game this season and scored 28.9 on their own. The Saints continue to be a run dominant team where they have rushed for 382 times on the season, averaging 4.4 yards per carry and 20 rushing touchdowns. With Taysom Hill under center these last few weeks, we have seen a high number of rushing attempts. It has not stalled his passing ability as the Saints have done a great job scheming up a playbook for him to do well. While Alvin Kamara isn’t featured in the pass offense, Michael Thomas has bounced back after nearly three-quarters of his season went to an injury. Hill has completed 71% of his passes this season, averaging 7.8 yards per attempt. His rushing is now up to over 350 yards and that has been the tough part of his game to stop. Latavius Murray has been sneaky good of late and is rushing for 4.5 yards per carry on the season. Both him and Kamara sure make a complete backfield.

Philadelphia Eagles Analysis

Philadelphia EaglesThe big storyline of the week is Jalen Hurts starting at center. We have seen him a few times for gadget plays this season but not a full start. He is going to give the Eagles a different dynamic at quarterback because he can move. This is a plus given the offensive line has struggled all year long. Miles Sanders has come out this week talking about his excitement to run some read-option style plays. Sanders was hardly used in the Week 13 loss against the Packers, which was an odd scheme given he has been excellent all year and the Packers run defense has struggled. Pass-catching options have been up and down this season but injuries have demolished most of them. However, the weird thing is Travis Fulgham who leads the Eagles in yards and receiving touchdowns has not been used over the last few weeks. Defensively this team will have its hands full even with Hill under center. This is also another all-pro wide receiver they will face, and Darius Slay has been anything but a shutdown corner over the last few weeks. Not that many can defend DK Metcalf and Davante Adams. Overall they have allowed 25.6 points per game but taken into account they play in the NFC East this defense is not as good as advertised.

Betting Corner: Saints -6.5

Spread: NO -6.5
Moneyline: NO -310 / PHI +255
Over/Under: 44

We now have a game between two backup mobile quarterbacks. Not what we expected or maybe we should have in 2020. The Saints are 5-1 on the road this season and 4-2 ATS. The under has been 5-7 for the Saints but 8-4 for the Eagles. Not a big surprise given this offense has scored 21 points per game this season and 4.8 yards per play. New Orleans has a very good pass rush and a defense that is well in form. I expect them to continue to play run-heavy and game plan to Hill’s strengths. While some might want to play the Jalen Hurts card that he sparks some change, I am not buying it. I like the Saints to win this one handily and the under as well.

Daily Fantasy Picks

This game has an over/under of 43 and doesn’t feature eye-popping offenses. It ranks pretty low on the games I am targeting this week. Even with Michael Thomas and Alvin Kamara going, I love about 4-5 more guys around their price tags that I would want to use more. This is a contrarian way to attack the slate but still, the ceilings are pretty low. It makes more sense to use this game in the afternoon slate. Thomas has looked healthier and the questionable tag is more a mid-week thing. Taysom Hill has looked his way quite a bit since covering for Brees. Alvin Kamara has taken the big hit with Hill under center as the passing game work is almost down to none. On the Eagles side, they will be starting Jalen Hurts. This could cause some spark but there is no way to attack this side right now.
