New York Giants Analysis

New York Giants
The New York Giants have been given a 56% chance to win the NFC East (per ESPN Next Gen stats) over the Washington Football team, due to their automatic win in a tie-breaker. The New York Giants pulled off an incredible win over the Seattle Seahawks last game, without their starting quarterback Daniel Jones. They will look to extend their two-game win streak next week over the Arizona Cardinals.

Daniel Jones threw for 267 yards against the Cincinnati Bengals two weeks ago before exiting the game with a hamstring injury. Colt McCoy filled in for Jones last week and threw for 105 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. He connected with Alfred Morris on a 6-yard touchdown in the game to score just one of the two total touchdowns the Giants needed in the game. Daniel Jones is still questionable for next week while he continues to deal with that hamstring injury. The Cardinals rank 16th in both passing yards and passing touchdowns allowed per game this season and have a reputable passing defense.

The run game for the New York Giants has absolutely carried them in games. Combined with their defense, they are able to run the clock out on teams. Last week, the team ran 31 times for 190 yards and one touchdown. Wayne Gallman led the way again for the Giants with 16-135-0, while Alfred Morris put up two touchdowns along with 39 rushing yards off of 8 attempts. Arizona is a bit below average with their rushing defense, allowing 123 yards per game and 4.5 yards per attempt allowed to their opponents.

The Giants’ defense has been absolutely outstanding for them and has been saving them in games. Last week, they held the Seattle Seahawks to just 12 points in the game, which is the lowest they have scored all season. The Giants have held teams to 22.1 points per game this season, which ranks them 9th in the NFL. They have one of the best rushing defenses in the league, but without starting linebacker Blake Martinez, who is questionable for next week, it may impact their defense.

Arizona Cardinals Analysis

Arizona Cardinals
The Arizona Cardinals are now 6-6 and out of the NFC playoff picture due to a lost tie-breaker to the Minnesota Vikings. The Cardinals have lost their last three games, including a tough divisional loss last week to the Los Angeles Rams. They currently hold third place in the NFC West with San Francisco right behind them and more teams to compete for a wild card spot ahead.

Last week, Kyler Murray threw for 173 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter. Murray also ran for 15 yards. Kyler’s run game has been obsolete in the last three weeks, as he has run for a combined 15 times and 61 yards in that span. Before that, He was on a five-game streak of rushing for at least one touchdown per game and over 10+ times per game. The New York Giants are below average in opponent completion percentage and passing yards per game, but rank in the top ten in passing touchdowns per game.

The run game for the Cardinals has usually been led by Kyler Murray, but it has lacked in recent games. Last week against the Rams, the Cardinals ran the ball 21 times as a team for just 92 yards and one rushing touchdown from Kenyan Drake. The Cardinals rank 4th in the NFL for rushing yards per game with clocking in an average of 150+ yards every game, plus the second most rushing touchdowns and the best average yardage per attempt at 5.0 yards per attempt. The Giants have one of the better rushing defenses in the league. They rank 4th in rushing yards per game as one of the few teams under 100 yards allowed per game, and 4.0 yards per carry which rank 8th in the NFL.

The Cardinals’ defense has been failing them a bit lately and the only categories that they are above average in this season are rushing touchdowns allowed per game and sacks per game. They have produced 29 sacks this season with the 17th best sack rate at 6.0%. The Giants’ rushing offense is the best part of their game led by Wayne Gallman. He has produced heavily for the Giants and last week was his first week in five straight games without a rushing touchdown. He will be the biggest threat to the Cardinals’ defense next week.

Betting Corner Cardinals -2.5

Spread: +/- 2.5

Over/Under: 45

Prediction

Spread: Cardinals -2.5
Moneyline: Cardinals
Over/Under: u45

The Arizona Cardinals are in desperate need of a win to keep their playoff hopes alive and could seriously use the help with a lighter game on their schedule. However, the Giants will not be an easy task considering they have an outstanding defense. The Cardinals should be able to outscore their offense and take the win and cover their spread.

The under is more appealing to me because the Giants have been able to tone down heavy scoring offenses, such as the Seahawks last week. Furthermore, they do not put up many points themselves on the offensive end, making this a better game for the under.

Love

Wayne Gallman keeps on producing in fantasy and has continued his streak of now six games with double-digit points. Last week was his second-lowest scoring game in that six-week span with 13.5 fantasy points. He still managed to put up the most rushing yards in a game this season with 135 yards. He will be taking on a team that has allowed the 11th most fantasy points to running backs this season and 123 yards per game off of 4.5 yards per attempt.

Hate

Kenyan Drake’s fantasy potential relies on his ability to score touchdowns in the game, which he has done for three straight weeks now. However, he will be taking on a team that has an above-average rushing defense and is 13th in rushing touchdowns per game. It is likely the Cardinals will be going more through the air in this one. Drake only touched the ball 10 times in the backfield, which was his lowest of the season.

Post
I have played football, baseball, hockey, golf, and basketball separately when I was young. Now I run cross country and track for DePaul University. My favorite part about sport is the mental strength. I am a big fan of all of the Chicago sports teams that don’t end in “Cubs.”
