New York Giants Analysis

New York GiantsThis game will be a massive test for Daniel Jones. He has faced off against 4 good defenses, but now gets one of the easiest matchups for QBs in the league. If he cannot put together a good game and compete with Dak Prescott, then I believe that the conversations about benching or moving on will deservedly be amplified.

Taking a look at the matchup for Daniel Jones, there is nothing on paper that should stop him from having a huge day, other than himself. While Evan Engram has been disappointing, the combination of him, Slayton, and Tate is more than enough weapons to go up against this atrocious secondary. It will all come down to whether Daniel Jones makes a boneheaded mistake and turns the ball over again in a crucial time like he has the past few games.

Devonta Freeman was also a nice addition that should be a threat in the running game, allowing Jones that much easier of a time passing. This can be a crucial part of the game because if the Giants cannot get any kind of running game going, then they will not be able to give the defense a rest against this extremely strong Dallas offense.

When it comes to defense, the front 7 has not been terrible. Leonard Williams and Dexter Lawrence are both great players on their defensive line. Meanwhile, Lorenzo Carter has been elite as a 3-4 OLB for this team. He has been able to both cover and get a pass rush. The first order of business for the Giants’ defense will be to stop Zeke. If they can at the very least force Dallas into passing situations, then they can be ready for the onslaught of weapons that will be thrown at them in the passing game. A lot of that success of stopping the rush will fall on Blake Martinez who is proving himself as one of the very top inside linebackers in the NFL.

That secondary has been surprisingly effective and much of that success can be credited to James Bradberry. The former Panther is having a career year and doing a ton to slow down the opposing team’s top weapon. However, in general, the secondary is still not where Giants’ fans would want it to be at. That all comes down to simply not having enough talent on the roster. Patrick Graham and Joe Judge will need to put together one heck of a gameplan to slow down Dak.

Dallas Cowboys Analysis

Dallas CowboysDallas’ offense has been elite this season. The only complaint has been the untimely Ezekiel Elliot fumbles and Dak Prescott interceptions. The wide receiving weapons of Cooper, Gallup, and Lamb have been as advertised and could make the argument that they are the best core in the league.

In this matchup, there should not be much in the way of resistance when it comes to the air attack of Dallas. While the Giants have been better than expected in the secondary, that is still not necessarily good. This game screams a CeeDee Lamb breakout party. With the more talented outside corners focusing on Gallup and Cooper, Lamb will be free to line up in the slot or really anywhere on the field and burn this defense. I expect Dak Prescott to do a better job of protecting the ball and have himself a day through the air.

The defense of Dallas has been the biggest issue for the team. While the rush defense had been okay the previous three weeks, against the Browns they were torn apart. Both Kareem Hunt and Nick Chubb’s replacement, D’Ernest Johnson, tore up the Dallas front 7. Then, the Dallas defense was fooled by two end-arounds involving Odell Beckham Jr that went for a total of 73 yards and 1 score. I expect that the Giants will be trying to get Freeman going in this game to open up the pass for Jones, which the Cowboys will need to stop.

The secondary will have their own problems without being sucked in on play-action. They currently have given up the 10th most passing yards in the league and third most passing touchdowns. Meanwhile, they have been only able to collect 2 interceptions on 139 attempts against. Darius Slayton and Golden Tate are not the most threatening names in the league, but both of them have enough talent to burn Dallas. The defense needs to step up in this game against a mediocre Daniel Jones, otherwise, I do not know if they ever will.

Betting Corner Cowboys -9

Over/Under: 54

Prediction:
Spread:NYG +9
Moneyline: DAL
Over/Under: Under

The Dallas offense will be able to drive down the field on this Giants defense. However, if Daniel Jones does a better job securing the ball, then he should also have no problem scoring. Despite that pointing at a high scoring game the over/under is set at a crazy 54 points. I highly doubt any Giants game hits that over this year. Daniel Jones will do just enough to keep this game competitive and stay within 9 points. However, the Cowboys should take this one easy.

30-24 Dallas takes it, and the Giants pull of a backdoor cover in garbage time.

Daily Fantasy Picks

Darius Slayton at $4,800 against the 31st ranked team against WRs is a no-brainer. He will be the #1 target for Daniel Jones and should have a strong game. He has struggled with Shepard out, but last week went against one of the very best secondaries in the league and still hauled in 48 yards and 3 receptions on 7 targets. This of course was also in a negative low-scoring game script. I expect big things from the underpriced WR this week.

Daniel Jones is probably a risky play, but at $5,400 if you want to spend up at RB and on other top WRs, then he could make for an interesting stack with Slayton. Not only will Jones have to sling it, but he can use his legs to give you a solid baseline. With the lack of great RBs, it would most likely be Jones to pass the ball in for a score even in the red zone. I think that Jones is a great GPP hail mary play.

CeeDee Lamb at $6000 is a little rich for my blood. However, in GPP that most likely means that he will not be a high-rostered player. I still think that Lamb will have a great game, and he surely has the possibility to go out and bring home a top 3 WR performance on the week. It would not hurt to throw him in on some tournament lineups, as he could easily hit big and give you a huge advantage over your competitors.
