New York Giants vs Dallas Cowboys Preview (11/24/22): Betting Odds, Prediction, Depth Chart

Talk about two totally different results for this matchup as the New York Giants take on the Dallas Cowboys in their annual Thanksgiving showdown. The Giants lost outright to the suddenly surging Detroit Lions while the Dallas Cowboys put on a masterful performance in a near shutout against the Minnesota Vikings.

New York Giants vs Dallas Cowboys Betting Odds

Both oddsmakers and bettors lean towards thinking the Cowboys repeat their dominant performance as they opened as a -7 favorite and have quickly seen their odds shoot up to the current number of -9. The Cowboys will have advantages on both sides of the ball in this one, expected to repeat their dominance on short notice.

As for the total, this number opened at 43 and has quickly jumped up to 44.5. Points are expected to be scored in bunches as Dak gets more acclimated with his weapons and sustains more standard down success. The emergence of Pollard and Zeke collaborating in the backfield has also been tough to scheme against as they remain fresh throughout the course of the game.

New York Giants vs Dallas Cowboys Prediction

The Pick: Over 44.5

While we all are well aware that the Cowboys possess an elite defense, it’s their offense that has made them take another step further towards Super Bowl contenders over the past few weeks. The Cowboys currently rank second in Overall Def DVOA while climbing up to 12th in Overall Off DVOA.

This is in large part to Dak Prescott returning from injury and connecting with his playmakers out in the open field. Ceedee Lamb has been emerging as a lead wideout while Gallup slowly rounds into form after early season injuries.

The duo of Ezekiel Elliot and Tony Pollard has quickly become one of the most lethal running back combinations in football. Both are elite runners while also playing key roles in the pass attack, making this an even more versatile offense for opposing defenses to figure out.

As for the Giants, they are not very friendly towards the over as their full game unders have hit at 70% with this season. Their offense, mainly Saquon, should regress positively back towards the mean with the Cowboys defense being on short rest and little time to fully prepare. They were able to move the ball effectively against the Lions with turnovers killing any sustained drive success.

Betting Trends

  • The over is 8-4 in Cowboys games on Thanksgiving since 2010
  • Cowboys as a -7 favorite or higher on Thanksgiving are 9-1 SU, 7-3 ATS

Key Matchups

Can the Giants get their run game going against the Cowboys defense? How will the Giants slow down the pass attack?

Saquon Barkley vs Cowboys defensive front

It was a game to be forgotten for Saquon as the Detroit Lions defense held the star running back to 22 yards on 15 carries in their last outing. Flat out embarrassing as the Lions defense is one of the worst units in football.

Now he gets a bounce back opportunity against one of the best defenses in the league. While one of the best, it’s worth noting that the Cowboys actually lack stopping the run at an elite level as they are 11th in Def Rush DVOA.

While the Vikings offensive production was near non-existent, running back Dalvin Cook still managed some on ground success as he finished with 72 rushing yards at 6.2 yards per carry. If the Giants want any hope at getting the upset and helping out our over ticket, then establishing the run will be vital behind the legs of Saquon.

Dak Prescott vs Giants secondary

One of the biggest key matchups towards hitting our total, the pass attack will be the focal points as the Cowboys do their part in hitting the over. They should have little to no issue as the Giants defense is one of the worst units in football, ranked in the 20’s in both Def Pass DVOA and Rush DVOA.

With injuries also hampering the Giants secondary, look for Dak to have another big outing as the Cowboys steamroll the Giants in primetime while they climb up the Super Bowl markets.
