New York Jets vs. Indianapolis Colts Matchup Preview (11/4/21)
The New York Jets and Indianapolis Colts had two very different Sundays. The Jets are coming off a major upset of the Cincinnati Bengals, winning 34-31. Not many people were expecting much from New York heading into the game, considering top pick Zach Wilson was out with an injury. However, backup quarterback Mike White came in and impressed, throwing for 405 yards and three touchdowns. Now, he faces a tough task in a short week against another potential playoff team.
The Indianapolis Colts, on the other hand, are definitely feeling deflated after Sunday’s game. The team had plenty of opportunities to win, but ended up with a tough overtime loss to the Tennessee Titans. Turnovers and sloppy play were to blame for the close loss, and the team will need to move on quickly to stay competitive. Now the Colts are 3-5 and desperate for a win to keep their playoff chances alive. Here’s what you should expect when the New York Jets travel to Indianapolis to take on the Colts on Thursday night.
New York Jets vs. Indianapolis Colts Betting Odds
So much of this game depends on if Mike White can stay hot after his major debut. White and Michael Carter clicked on Sunday, and it all comes down to how the team uses the duo on Thursday night. I see the momentum keeping up from the big win over Cincy. The Jets have shown a dangerous streak in their two wins, and bettors should take notice. It’s a good spot for the Jets, as the Colts are feeling snakebitten after a deflating loss to the Titans.
Still, the Colts are the better team. I’m sure some bettors will jump on the New York moneyline as a knee-jerk reaction, but I’m still a bit skeptical until I see more consistency from the team. However, I still believe this will be a closer game than expected. The Colts have had some serious gut-punch losses against the Los Angeles Rams, Baltimore Ravens, and Tennessee Titans this year. That wears on a team, and I envision them limping to a win against a motivated Jets squad. Take the points with the road dog in this primetime matchup.
My predictions: Colts win 24-21, Jets +10, under 46.5 points

New York Jets Analysis
I’m pretty sure even the most loyal New York Jets fans didn’t expect much from the team against a hot Bengals team. Instead, the team left with a major win. The Jets are currently 2-5 thanks to two major upsets against AFC competitors (the Bengals and Titans), showing that they’re much more competitive than expected under head coach Robert Saleh. If the Jets get another big win Thursday night against the Colts, things could be interesting for the first time in a long time in New Jersey.
The offense was definitely the most surprising part of Sunday’s win. After managing just 299 yards against the New England Patriots the week before, New York torched the Bengals for 511 yards and 34 points. Now it’s time to find out if Mike White is the real deal after shining in his Jets debut. RB Michael Carter had a successful day as well, averaging 5.1 yards and finding the end zone on the ground while hauling in nine catches for 95 yards.
There are still concerns on defense for the New York Jets. They’re currently allowing 390.4 yards and 29.4 points per game, and that’s not going to cut it against powerful AFC offenses. The team also desperately needs to start getting takeaways. The team has one lone interception by defensive end Shaq Lawson on the season. However, if Mike White can keep up the momentum from Sunday and the defense makes a few adjustments, this team could play spoiler deep into the season.

Indianapolis Colts Analysis
Carson Wentz giveth, Carson Wentz giveth away. The Indianapolis quarterback started out the season so successfully, going five straight games without a pick and coming off a major win against the San Francisco 49ers. However, costly interceptions kept the Colts from winning in overtime against the Tennessee Titans, and now there are major questions about the team. At 3-5, the Colts aren’t completely sunk, but they’ll need to start making adjustments if they want another chance at making the playoffs.
The Colts have some definite talent when it comes to skill positions. RB Jonathan Taylor had a bit of a slow start to the season, but he’s hitting his stride right now, averaging 95.6 yards per game and finding the end zone six times along that stretch. WR Michael Pittman Jr. is giving the offense a major boost, averaging 74.3 yards per game and scoring four times. However, the Colts need another receiver to step up. The next most receiving yards for the team after Pittman Jr.’s 594 is Jonathan Taylor with 265. If Carson Wentz is going to thrive in Indy, he’s going to need to be able to spread the ball around.
The Indianapolis defense has been decent, to say the least. The team’s allowing 352.4 yards per game, and has been able to smother opponents as seen in games against the Houston Texans and San Francisco 49ers. The Colts have been successfully forcing opponents to turn the ball over, with nine interceptions on the season thus far. Indianapolis has issues for sure, but this is a team that’s shown they can pull off big wins when needed.

New York Jets vs. Indianapolis Colts Daily Fantasy Picks
I’m big on Jets RB Michael Carter after Sunday’s performance. The running back was a major contributor on offense against the Bengals, with 172 total yards and a score. Something tells me offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur will take notice. With WR Corey Davis injured, Carter will need to pick up the slack and contribute to the passing game. Carter is only listed at $4,900 on DraftKings right now, and I see some definite value for one of your running back slots or as a FLEX player.
