New York Knicks vs Brooklyn Nets Matchup Preview (3/13/22)
The New York Knicks (28-39) face the Brooklyn Nets (34-33) Sunday afternoon in a battle for New York. The Knicks have picked up some steam and are winners of three of their last four games. They have been balanced, owning the 7th Offensive Rating and 1st Defensive Rating over that four-game span. The Knicks are coming off a close 118-114 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies. Julius Randle produced 36 points, 12 rebounds, and 6 assists on 40.7 FG%. RJ Barrett added 23 points and 7 rebounds for the Knicks. Mitchell Robinson was all over the court, securing 10 points, 16 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, and 4 blocks. However, they could not stop Ja Morant (37 points, 8 assists), and the Knicks bench was outscored by 22 points. Against the Nets, the Knicks will be without Quentin Grimes and Cam Reddish, who suffered a season-ending injury. Derrick Rose is close to a return, but Alec Burks will continue to start at point guard while he recovers.
The Nets are 2-2 since Durant returned, but the stretch is more impressive than the record indicates. They lost to the dominant Heat and Celtics by a combined 12 points, beat the Charlotte Hornets by 11, and beat the Philadelphia 76ers by 29. The 76ers game was the first matchup between the teams since the James Harden-Ben Simmons trade. The Nets were scorching offensively, shooting a 56 FG% and 45 3PT%. Durant showed up, going for 25 points, 14 rebounds, and 7 assists. Irving scored 22 points, and Seth Curry added 24 points on 10/14 from the field. For the 76ers, Embiid and Harden had off-nights. They struggled to find their shooting stroke, and the 76ers were subsequently blown out. Because it is a home game, Kyrie Irving will be out against the Knicks. Ben Simmons is also not ready to return to the court. Veteran LaMarcus Aldridge won’t be able to play, which hurts their bench depth.
New York Knicks vs Brooklyn Nets Betting Odds
The Nets defeated the Knicks 111-106 on February 16th in their only previous matchup. Seth Curry scored 20 points on 6 threes, and Andre Drummond produced a double-double (11 points, 19 rebounds). Off the bench, rookie Cameron Thomas scored 21 points. For the Knicks, Julius Randle had a double-double (31 points, 10 rebounds). If the Nets were fully healthy, I think the Nets would blow out the Knicks. However, Kyrie’s absence is a huge loss for the Nets. With the Knicks playing great basketball right now, I think they keep this game very close. While it won’t be an offensive outburst, the game should see considerable scoring. Around 226-228 total points seems like a reasonable range.

New York Knicks Starting Lineup
PG: Alec Burks
SG: Evan Fournier
SF: RJ Barrett
PF: Julius Randle
C: Mitchell Robinson
New York Knicks Analysis
The Knicks are riding Julius Randle’s offense right now. Randle is an interior force who also has the range to stretch the floor. In his last three games, he is averaging 36.0 PPG, 10.0 RPG, and 4.3 APG on a fantastic 48/48/80 shooting split. Kevin Durant will guard Randle, which is a favorable matchup for him. Durant has incredible length and is a decent team defender, but he cannot guard Randle in the post. Andre Drummond is an average rim protector at best who cannot help Durant much. If they double Randle, Robinson can make them pay as a constant lob threat.
On the perimeter, the Knicks have RJ Barrett and Evan Fournier to make shots. Barrett is averaging 26.5 PPG and 4.5 APG in his last 11 games. He is an inconsistent shooter, but he has the capability to drop 40 points in any game. Bruce Brown Jr, a relentless defender, will mark Barrett. He is a solid pick and roll defender who can get past screens. The Knicks should try to switch Goran Dragic or Seth Curry onto Barrett from a screen. The Nets backcourt is below average defensively, and the Knicks can take advantage of this. Fournier is a good spot up shooter who can also take defenders off the dribble. If the Knicks are going to win this game, they need to slow down the Nets 2nd and 3rd options (since Durant is unstoppable) and get great offensive production from Fournier, Barrett, and Randle.
Brooklyn Nets Starting Lineup
PG: Goran Dragic
SG: Seth Curry
SF: Bruce Brown Jr
PF: Kevin Durant
C: Andre Drummond
Brooklyn Nets Analysis
The Nets have the luxury of relying on Kevin Durant, one of the best scorers of all-time. He is averaging 26.8 PPG, 6.8 RPG, and 6.5 APG on a 52/40/91 shooting split. Durant can take Randle out to the perimeter, where Randle is uncomfortable defensively. If Barrett guards Durant, then Durant has a large height advantage. He can drive to the hoop and pull up for a jump shot that will be unblockable. Although Durant will get his points, the Nets need contributions from other places. Seth Curry is a lethal three point shooter who is coming off a 24-point game. He is shooting 41.2% from three and can be an absolute game changer. Fournier will guard Curry, and he is an average defender. Curry needs to use screens in this game and fire away from deep.
The Nets bench has a huge role in this game. Because of injuries, the Knicks are very thin outside of their top 6 players. Patty Mills, Cameron Thomas, James Johnson, and Nic Claxton have a great chance to maintain a Nets lead. Immanuel Quickley is a worrisome scoring threat for the Knicks, but Cameron Thomas can counter his scoring. Overall, the Nets have the best player in this matchup, and they are also deeper.
New York Knicks vs Brooklyn Nets Daily Fantasy Picks
I like Kevin Durant, Julius Randle, and Immanuel Quickley in this matchup. Durant is a must play who can drop 35+ at any time. With Kyrie out, Durant will get a larger amount of FGA this game. Because of his absurd efficiency, Durant will score a ton of points. For the Knicks, I like Randle to lead the scoring charge. He is not the most efficient player, but his incredible volume makes up for it. Randle is also a double-double threat who can chip in a few assists. Immanuel Quickley will be trusted to carry the bench unit. He’s averaging 15.3 PPG, 5.3 RPG, and 3.2 APG in his last nine games. Over that span, he is getting 9.6 FGA per game and shooting a 50/45/91 line.
