New York Knicks vs. Memphis Grizzlies Matchup Preview (3/11/22)

FedEx Forum will be rocking once again when the Memphis Grizzlies host the underwhelming New York Knicks. Surprisingly, New York has won three straight games, including bouts against the Los Angeles Clippers, Sacramento Kings, and Dallas Mavericks. Even with a small win streak, the Knicks’ season is far from a success. Many people projected the Knicks to be somewhere between fourth and sixth in the Eastern Conference by the end of the regular season; they are currently in 12th place. There is little hope for New York to make a play-in game at this point, so I could see it punting the rest of the season sooner versus later.

Memphis still has something to fight for: second place in the Western Conference. As of Thursday night, the Grizzlies stand at second place but are merely 0.5 games ahead of the Golden State Warriors, who looked quite good against the Denver Nuggets. Every game matters now, especially since Memphis and Golden State could face off in the playoffs, and home-court advantage matters in the postseason. Check out who I think will cover this inevitably large spread below!

New York Knicks vs. Memphis Grizzlies Betting Odds

Memphis is not missing any key players to an injury outside of Dillon Brooks, while New York will be without Cam Reddish, Nerlens Noel, Quentin Grimes, Kemba Walker, and Derrick Rose. Additionally, Obi Toppin is questionable for this matchup against the Grizzlies.

The Grizzlies’ Moneyline is an absolute no-brainer, but the odds on that are not going to be great. I like Memphis against the spread if it is eight-point favorites or better, but a double-digit spread may scare me off a bit. The bet I will be eyeing is the point total, which is hovering around 231 points. I will definitely be hammering the under in this matchup as the Knicks should finish the game around 105 points. I don’t see a scenario where they put up 115 on the Grizzlies. Memphis has been a bit sporadic in its scoring outputs over the past couple of weeks, but I would expect to see it put up about 115-118.

New York Knicks Analysis

Regardless of what happens between now and the end of the season, I think the New York Knicks and their fans would describe this as an unsuccessful season. Despite going out and getting two solid scoring guards in free agency and drafting a couple of high-ceiling players, the Knicks were not only not as good as last season but substantially worse. Still, the Knicks have won their past three straight games over the Los Angeles Clippers, Sacramento Kings, and Dallas Mavericks, who they always seem to beat. Even the game before, New York lost to the Phoenix Suns by merely one point. It is hard to imagine the Knicks beating the Memphis Grizzlies on the road, but their smackdown of the Mavs certainly raised eyebrows.

Memphis Grizzlies Analysis

This Memphis Grizzlies team is just awesome; very few people could have expected this much from a team that is so young. The Grizzlies are currently in second place in the Western Conference, one-half of a game ahead of the Golden State Warriors. Golden State will be returning Draymond Green potentially as soon as Monday, so Memphis needs to win every game possible. Once Green returns, Golden State will likely be exponentially better than it is now; therefore, Memphis needs to play incredibly well down the stretch to hold the Warriors off. I like Memphis to take care of business and control this game from start to finish!

New York Knicks vs. Memphis Grizzlies Daily Fantasy Picks

In DFS, you have to find the hot hand and the beneficial matchups. Desmond Bane has the hot hand for the Memphis Grizzlies in this particular case. In just his second season, Bane has catapulted from a role player to a legitimate secondary scoring option. On the season, Bane has averaged roughly 18 points, four rebounds, and three assists as Ja Morant’s partner in crime. He has been a tremendous player and is just 23 years old still. Ja and Bane are among the youngest and most talented backcourts in the NBA, and it is so exciting to think we will get to see them for many years to come. Bane has played even better in the past three games, averaging 25 points, four rebounds, and three assists on a 54/50/100 shooting split. Bane could always improve his passing and rebounding, but if he keeps shooting this outrageously good, then it does not matter. He is a valuable DFS player, and this is a great matchup for him against this horrendous Knicks team.

How risky are you feeling for your DFS lineup? If the answer is “very,” you may consider playing Julius Randle in your lineup. Randle has been extremely hot and cold throughout the season and especially recently. In Randle’s past three games, he has had a game of ten points, eight rebounds, and four assists, and then a game of 46 points and ten rebounds. The point is that his output is nowhere near the consistency of LeBron James or a player of that caliber. He is quite sporadic in his output, but you have an advantage on the rest of the field if you can get him on the right game. Another player you may want to consider is R.J. Barrett, who is playing the best basketball of his career. Barrett has been phenomenal over his past seven games, averaging 27.3 points, seven rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game. He has struggled with efficiency from the floor at times, but the volume has been there for a while.
