New York Mets Vs. Zack Wheeler (R)

Last season, his third year in the big leagues, Pete Alonso smashed 37 home runs, drove in 97 runs, hit a career high .262 with an OPS of .863.  The Mets first baseman is averaging 46 home runs and 109 RBI with a .542 slugging percentage in a full 162 game schedule. In the season opening series against the Nationals, the Mets number had four hits in 18-abats including smashing a grand slam on Saturday.  Alonso had six hits in 17 at-bats with one RBI against Philadelphia’s Zack Wheeler last year.  The New York is slugger is +3000 to win his first National League MVP award.  Francisco Lindor struggled in his first season as a Met but did start to play well after the All-Star break.  In 2021, the shortstop hit .230 with 20 home runs, 63 runs batted in, 73 runs scored and an OPS of .734.  The second year, Met enters the 2022 season with 1,000 career hits and a .278 lifetime batting average.  Despite getting hit this face this Friday evening, he expects to be in the lineup.  Last season Lindor had four hits in 12 at-bats against the Phillies ace Wheeler with an OPS of .801.  Jeff McNeil a lifetime .299 career hitter, hit .251 in 2021.  He hit seven home runs, knocked in 51 runs with an on base percentage .319 in 386 at-bats.  Opening the season in Washington last week, McNeil was 7-16 with a home run, three runs batted in and an OPS of 1.125.  In 19 at-bats against Zack Wheeler last season, McNeil had three hits (one double) with an OPS of .396.   

Starling Marte entering his first season as New York Met, hit .310 with 12 home runs and 55 runs batted in playing for the Marlins and Athletics last season.  Overall Marte had 42 extra base hits and an OPS of .841.  He had nine at-bats against the Phillies, Zack Wheeler last season, having two hits and driving in a run. percentage. Mark Canha has opened his Mets career on fire, getting seven hits and 10 at-bats with two runs batted in.  He did not have an at-bat against Wheeler last season.

Last year, Zack Wheeler finished in second in Cy Young balloting, starting 32 ballgames, while going 14-10 with a 2.78 ERA.  In his second year with Philadelphia, he 213 1/3 inning, striking out 247 batters with a WHIP of 1.01.  Against New York last season he was 3-1 with an ERA of 2.10; allowing eight earned runs in 34 1/3 innings.

Philadelphia Phillies Vs. Tylor Megill (R)

In 2021, superstar, Bryce Harper won his second National League MVP in his career.  In 141 games, he hit .309 with 35 home runs and 84 runs driven in.  Additionally, the Phillies number three led the National League in doubles (42), slugging percentage (.615), OPS (1.044) and. OPS + (179).  Bryce Harper is +850 to his second straight National League MVP.  To start the 2022 season, he has one hit in 11 at-bats with an RBI.  In two at-bats last year against the Mets Megill he’s hitless.

Last year, Rhys Hoskins played in 107 games, hitting .247 with 27 home runs and 71 runs batted in.  This season, he has four hits in nine at-bats with a home run, three runs batted in with an OPS of 1.472.  Last season, Rhys Hoskins did not have an at-bat against the New York’s Megill.  J.T. Realmuto hit .263 with 17 home runs and 73 runs batted.  The three-time All-Star had 209 total bases with 25 doubles and four triples in 2021.  The Philadelphia catcher is 1-9 to start the 2022 season.  In two at-bats last year against the Mets Megill he’s hitless.

Free agent, signee Kyle Schwarber hit .266 with 32 home runs and 71 runs batted in while playing for the Washington Nationals and Boston Red Sox.  Schwarber had 221 total bases, .554 slugging percentage and an OPS of .928.  The 2016 World Series champion has hit at least 30 home runs in four major league seasons. Last season, Schwarber did not have an at-bat against the New York’s Megill.  Nick Castellanos hit .309 last season with 34 home runs and 100 runs batted in.  Additionally, he had an OPS of .936, .576 slugging percentage with 306 total bases as a Cincinnati Red.  Nick Castellanos did not have an at-bat against Mets starter Tylor Megill in 2021.

Due to injuries at the top of their pitching staff, new Mets manager, Buck Showalter had elected to give the ball to Tylor Megill on opening day.  Last year, Megill in his first season in the big leagues started 18 games going 4-6 with an ERA of 4.52.  He had one complete game and struck out 99 hitters in 89.2 innings.  In his first start of the 2022 season, he threw five innings, allowing three hits and no runs allowed.
