Nashville Predators vs. Calgary Flames
I’m just going to bury the lead here: how are the Calgary Flames favored in any game? Before the recent win over the Seattle Kraken, the team was on a six-game losing streak, being outscored 24-9 along the way. The team is 28th in offense right now with 2.55 goals per game, and their top scorer Andrew Mangiapane has just 8 points (2 goals, 6 assists). Things don’t get much brighter on defense, where the Flames are allowing 3.64 goals per game, ranking them 29th in the league. Jacob Markstrom is projected to start in goal, and while his stats aren’t exactly terrible (.897 SV%, 3.03 GAA), they’re a far cry from 2021-22, when he was second in Vezina Trophy votes.
Meanwhile, the Nashville Predators have looked decent so far this season. 4 of the team’s 5 wins have come over playoff teams from last season, and they’ve outscored opponents 20-6 in those wins. Ryan O’Reilly leads the team with 7 goals, followed closely by fellow centers Tommy Novak (6) and Colton Sissons (5). Nashville is a very middle-of-the-pack team to me, considering their below average goals per game (20th) and above average goals allowed per game (12th). But they’ve definitely showed more than Calgary this year, and have an excellent goaltender in Juuse Saros (.910 SV%, 2.68 GAA). I love the value taking Nashville on the moneyline, and might add a puck line sprinkle as extra proof that I’m fading Calgary.
