After winning the first game of this series, the Red Sox immediately look to ride their momentum into the second.
Despite giving up four runs in the second inning, Eduardo Rodriguez turned in a decent start against the A’s last night and the offense exploded for nine runs, six of which came in the third inning. The biggest Red Sox contributors offensively were rookie Michael Chavis who went 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs, Xander Bogaerts who went 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs, and Mookie Betts who added 3 hits and an RBI. Matt Chapman and Marcus Semien had decent games for the A’s knocking two hits apiece. And Frankie Montas didn’t pitch too poorly either. Oakland simply lost due to bad defensive errors.
The Sox will send Rick Porcello to the bump for game two and the A’s will send Aaron Brooks. Porcello struggled a lot in his first couple outings but turned in six solid innings last time out against the Detroit Tigers. Aaron Brooks earned his second win of the season in his last outing against the Texas Rangers and he has had pretty good success against the Red Sox in his career.
This will be an important game to win for both teams as they each have lots of ground to make up in their respective divisions. Boston comes into the game at 12-17 and Oakland at 14-17. Both hope to prove critics wrong and turn around slow starts to the 2019 season.

Athletics Starting Lineup
The A’s started the 2019 season hovering just over .500 but they now find themselves three games below that mark after losing their last four games. They are also 3-7 in their last 10. And it’s a shame to see that yesterday’s game was blown by 2 critical errors from a normally solid Oakland defense.
Montas may have pitched well in the general scheme of things but he also did give up 8 hits. This is just another example of how the A’s pitching has been struggling of late, especially their bullpen. Another notable example was two days ago when the team’s lights-out closer, Blake Treinen, blew a 3-run lead in extra innings against Toronto.
This will be the fifth game between the two teams and the A’s are 3-2 this far. However, 4 out of the 5 games were played in Oakland and the A’s, historically speaking, haven’t had very much success at Fenway Park.
It should be noted, though, that while tonight’s starter Aaron Brooks hasn’t pitched too much against Boston in his career, those innings he has pitched have been quite successful. He has a 2.89 ERA in 9 and 1/3 total innings vs Boston.

Red Sox Analysis
Just when the Red Sox’ overall performance is starting to drop, they win. And right when they seem to be on a winning streak, they lose. After dropping two games in a row against Tampa Bay, the Red Sox managed to snag a win against the A’s last night by a score of 9-4.
You could definitely say that the offense clicked last night, but it was certainly aided by a poor A’s defense. On a more positive note, however, Eduardo Rodriguez had just one bad inning and the bullpen was generally impressive. The Red Sox clearly have found the formula to win games. They now just have to answer the question: how can they keep the winning consistent?
Maybe that will start with another good performance from Rick Porcello. Granted, he wasn’t amazing his last time out but certainly, he improved upon his awful starts from the first few games of the season. Hopefully, he will continue to improve and turn in at least seven solid innings giving up fewer than 3 runs and 5 hits.
Another plus of recent Red Sox gamed has without a doubt been Michael Chavis. He has given the lineup a much-needed spark and has already made a difference in his offensive contributions. Also good is the fact that Mookie Betts seems to be getting hot. After a slow start to the season, he is finally turning in multi-hit games at a consistent rate and providing some power as well.
Athletics vs Red Sox Betting Odds
It is likely to be another Red Sox win in tonight’s game. Oakland hasn’t had the pitching necessary for success the last two games and who says today will be any different. Furthermore, the Sox offense looks to ride last night’s 9-run momentum into another strong game at the plate. The line currently has Boston at -147 and Oakland +137. The over/under for tonight is 9.5.
