Oregon Vs. Oklahoma Betting Odds, Picks, and Predictions (12/29/21)
Contents
On December 29th, the matchup between #14 Oregon and #15 Oklahoma will commence. Both teams were frontrunners for the College Football Playoffs at the beginning of the season but ended trailing to the middle of the pack. Oklahoma has faced much adversity after their head coach, Lincoln Riley, left the team without notice sending many of their players into the transfer portal. They’ll be coached by previous head coach, Bob Stoops, in the Valero Alamo Bowl. The Sooners may have trouble finding their groove without Lincoln Riley and their top receivers, but Caleb Williams may be able to lead the team to victory against the Ducks. Oregon football was on a hot streak, taking over the PAC 12 until they met their match with the Utah Utes. Similar to the Sooners, the Ducks will be coached by their interim coach, Bryan McClendon, after head coach Mario Cristobal left to coach for the University of Miami. The two teams are desperate to prove their worth as the 2021 season comes to an end, so this may be one of the most exciting bowl games this season.

Oregon Betting Odds
The Oregon Ducks found themselves in the front of the pack as the 2021 college football season began. They were taking big conference wins until they were stopped by Stanford and Utah. The PAC 12 Championship ended in great sorrow for the Ducks after taking a humiliating 38-10 loss. After losing their head coach, Mario Cristobal, to the University of Miami, the interim head coach, Bryan McClendon, will be running the team. McClendon has been the wide receivers coach for the Oregon team for the past two years. He says he has not made many change-ups in the depth chart and has been the passing coordinator for Cristobal, so the play calling may be very similar to that of the past coach.
Anthony Brown will be the starter for the Ducks in the Alamo Bowl after starting every game this season. Brown has certified himself as a huge offensive weapon for the Ducks’ offense with his passing and rushing ability. He had 2,683 passing yards and 637 rushing yards in the regular season with 15 touchdown throws. Brown can be an unpredictable quarterback that the Sooner defense will have to watch closely.
The Ducks’ offense will be heavily reliant on their top rusher, Travis Dye. Dye racked up an impressive 1,118 rushing yards for 15 touchdowns in the regular season. The junior running back also has a dual skill set since his receiving abilities landed him the most receptions on the team and 374 yards. He is a more petite college running back, but he has the power and determination to make room and make big plays. The Oklahoma defense will need to be alert to contain the powerhouse of Travis Dye. In this game, all eyes will be on him.
Oklahoma Betting Odds
The Oklahoma Sooners are rising from the ashes to prove to the world that OU DNA cannot be broken. After the devastating news of the beloved head coach Lincoln Riley leaving for USC, players flocked to the transfer portal leaving the Sooner football team bare and confused. After Brent Venables was named the new coach and Bob Stoops grabbing the reigns for the bowl game, the tables seemed to turn, and the team began to perk up. During their season, the Sooners went 10-2, taking major losses to #6 Baylor and #9 Oklahoma State. The Sooners made a quarterback change during the Red River Rivalry with the University of Texas from Spencer Rattler to true-freshman Caleb Williams. Williams was questionable to stay with the Sooner team but has yet to enter the transfer portal, keeping fans excited for his first bowl appearance.
Caleb Williams was a shocking name in the college football world and proved himself to be an essential part of the campus and the team. In his first season (with only five starts), Williams was able to archive 1,670 passing yards, 408 rushing yards, and 18 touchdowns with only four interceptions. At the start of the season, Williams was used as a rushing quarterback for QB sneaks to keep Rattler out of harm’s way but took over in the Texas game, changing the course of that matchup. Williams is said to be feeling good about his first bowl game appearance and is enjoying working with hall of fame coach Bob Stoops. Williams may use this bowl game to help make career decisions so that a Sooner win might lift his spirits after a crushing loss to rivals, Oklahoma State.
After many star players entered the transfer portal, key players like Kennedy Brooks made the decision to stay with the program. Brooks leads the team in rushing yards with 1,111 rushing yards on 184 carries for ten touchdowns. Brooks has been one of the most prominent offensive leaders on this team, and his presence will not only lead to big yardage and point sums but also morale and energy. The Ducks’ defense needs to stop Brooks if they want any chance at bringing home this bowl win.
Oregon Vs. Oklahoma Picks & Prediction
The Valero Alamo Bowl will be one of the highlights of this season’s bowl games. The two teams are hungry to prove their worth and take a big win after a disappointing end to both of their seasons. The DraftKing odds are in favor of the Sooners. They placed the spread at -4.5 (105) for Oklahoma and +4.5 (-115) for the Ducks. The moneyline has been set for -190 for Oklahoma and +160 for Oregon. Despite the adversity of losing a head coach and key players, the Oklahoma Sooners will emerge victoriously in this game. Caleb Williams may be a young quarterback compared to Anthony Brown, but his skill set can make him the best in the nation with more experience.
My Pick: Oklahoma Win 35-24, Oklahoma covers the spread.
