Contents
Oregon visits Oregon State in the latest battle for the Platypus Cup. Oregon is coming off a very close win against Utah, while Oregon State blew out Arizona State. This should be an interesting matchup for who plays in the Pac-12 Championship against USC because if Oregon loses then it gets interesting. Let’s look at the odds and make some picks and predictions for this game!
Oregon vs. Oregon State Odds
Oregon is a 3-point road favorite against Oregon State and is at -155 on the money line. The over/under is also at 57. Oregon being this low of a favorite makes sense. The Ducks are beat up a little bit on both offense and defense, and Oregon State is very good, especially at home. This rivalry has also been close a lot recently too. The over/under also makes sense because both of these teams can score, especially with their ground games. This spread could also move more in favor for Oregon depending on some news for the Ducks on who is and isn’t healthy.
Oregon vs. Oregon State Prediction & Pick
The Pick: Oregon -3
There’s just more to like and trust with Oregon as compared to Oregon State. Oregon is a more complete team than Oregon State too. The offense has been very good with Bo Nix having a a great season for the Ducks, and the running game being very good with Bucky Irving. Troy Franklin has also stepped up and established himself as one of the better receivers in the country. The offense averages 40 points and 511 total yards a game on the year. The defense needs to be better, especially against the pass. Last week against Utah, was a good sign for this defense so now we can see if they can maintain that this week.
Oregon State has been very good this year. They are just a solid team with a good offense and a good defense. The issue is that they don’t have an extra gear to lock into on either side of the ball. The defense is the better unit and allows 20 points and 331 total yards a game. They are very good in the secondary, but are weak on the defensive line, which will be an issue against this amazing Oregon offensive line. The Oregon State offense is solid and scores points in creative ways.
Their focus is with their ground game, which is very good. The issue is that there’s a lot of inconsistency at quarterback and it’s been a revolving door at that position too. Take the Ducks here, they are the better team and should lock up a spot in the Pac-12 Championship game.
Oregon vs. Oregon State Key Matchups
Can Oregon State contain Bo Nix? Can Oregon slow down Damien Martinez?
Bo Nix vs the Oregon State Secondary
Bo Nix has been having his best year yet in college this year. He has 3,062 passing yards, 25 passing touchdowns, six interceptions, and he has a 72% completion percentage on the year. He was injured against Washington two weeks ago, but seems healthy enough now. Oregon State is decent against the pass and allows 219 passing yards a game. Nix has a tough matchup here, but if he can have a good game then Oregon could win here easily.
Damien Martinez vs the Oregon Front Seven
Damien Martinez has been very good as the primary running back for the Beavers. He has 143 carries, 867 rushing yards, and seven rushing touchdowns on the year. His best game was against Colorado where he ran for 178 yards and three touchdowns on 22 carries. Oregon has a decent run defense and allows 113 rushing yards a game. Martinez has a tough matchup with Oregon, but he needs to have a big game here in order for the Beavers to stay competitive in this game.
