Philadelphia 76ers at Oklahoma City Thunder 11/15/19: Starting Lineups, Matchup Preview, Daily Fantasyl
Philadelphia 76ers at Oklahoma City Thunder Preview
The Philadelphia 76ers and Oklahoma City Thunder have produced some entertaining matchups over the last few years, but now that Joel Embiid’s dance partner Russell Westbrook is gone to Houston, this may not quite have the fireworks it once did, but don’t expect Thunder point guard Chris Paul to back down from the challenge.
The 76ers are 7-4 on the season, good enough for fifth in the West. They lost their last game and have struggled away from home, compiling a 3-4 road record, which accounts for every single one of their losses this season. They’ll hope to stop the bleeding tonight in OKC.
The Thunder have struggled as well, with a 4-7 record placing them at 11th in the West. They’ve lost their last two games entering tonight’s matchup and are 4-3 at home.

Philadelphia 76ers Starting Lineup
The Philadelphia 76ers seemed to have been on a roll, winning two straight, but it may have been fool’s gold as the opposition didn’t come from any of the top teams in the league. That all came to a head on Wednesday night. Without Joel Embiid, the 76ers struggled, especially in the fourth quarter against the 4-7 Orlando Magic.
The 76ers were limited to just 15 fourth-quarter points and were outscored by 17 points. With Embiid out, it was an opportunity for Tobias Harris to have a big game, but he struggled and only managed eight points in a new offensive role head coach Brett Brown is trying to transition him into.
“I look at Tobias as, kind of, my new J.J. I want him really hunting threes. I want him thinking that way. With J-Rich, you go through the process of … I believe that, when mid-April comes, there’s a significant chance that he will be the back-up point guard,” Brown said.
Aside from Harris struggling, the 76ers typically get some help off the bench from Furkan Korkmaz. Inserted into the starting lineup, the forward managed just eight points but also contributed 10 rebounds and six assists.
Oklahoma City Thunder Starting Lineup
Thunder coach Billy Donovan likely liked the effort he got from his team in a 121-119 loss against the Milwaukee Bucks on Sunday, but Oklahoma City followed that with a blowout loss to the Indiana Pacers 111-85. Only four Thunder players reached double figures and no player scored more than 14 points.
The Thunder’s 37-point combined second and third quarter offense really hurt them as they searched for shots.
“You can always just go back to, how do you get an easier shot? And that’s with movement, pace,” said Thunder center Steven Adams.
Adams finished with 10 points and six rebounds against the Pacers. Thus far, life without Russell Westbrook and Paul George has been difficult.
Key Player Matchups
Joel Embiid vs. Steven Adams
When Embiid is healthy, he’s just plain dominant. Adams is one of the better rim protectors in the league, but he’ll have his hands full with Embiid, who has crazy range. After sitting out his last game, it’ll be interesting to see what Embiid’s conditioning is like because that will likely impact this matchup.
Ben Simmons vs. Chris Paul
This is an odd pairing with Simmons having a 10-inch height advantage, but this isn’t quite boxing, and Paul’s tenacity and scrappiness often make up for his vertical deficiencies. Simmons is a great defender, but Paul is quick and crafty and will look to make him move all over the court to defend him. Defensively, I can see Donovan using Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to guard Simmons whole Paul switches on Josh Richardson.
Joel Embiid and Chris Paul are standouts in this matchup tonight, and Embiid seems to be slated for a big game. He is available for $9.2k on FanDuel with a projection of 50.53 points, which is the fourth-highest of tonight’s game. I’d put Chris Paul in the stud and value category as he has a salary of just $6.3k with a projection of 34.44 points. Getting a multi-cat player like Paul that cheap seems to be a no-brainer.
Josh Richardson is a solid pick for a value on Philadelphia’s roster. He has a $5.6k salary and is expected to finish with 27.04 points tonight.
