Philadelphia 76ers vs. Houston Rockets Preview

In an interconference battle in prime time on MLK Day, the Philadelphia 76ers (30-17) host the Houston Rockets (26-19) tonight.

Philadelphia is fourth in the Eastern Conference and comes into tonight’s game having lost their last game at home. However, they have won seven of their last 10 games. Houston, who has climbed to fifth in the West, got a much-needed win in their most recent game and are 6-4 in their last 10.

The last time the 76ers and Rockets met, it was one of James Harden’s rare non-50-point games, as he finished with 29 points and seven assists in a 107-115 loss. Ben Simmons led the 76ers with 24 points and nine rebounds.

The Rockets will be looking to split the season series tonight and start a win streak on the road.

76ers Analysis

Philadelphia 76ersPhiladelphia went down to the wire on Saturday night, but their late fourth-quarter rally fell short in a 115-117 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

A 33-point Thunder first quarter really put Philly behind the eight ball, and while several 76ers played well, they couldn’t match the balanced offense from Oklahoma City or find a way to stop Paul George. George completed a four-point play with seconds left on the clock to complete the win.

Joel Embiid had 31 points, eight rebounds, and six assists, and he’s likely licking his chops at getting to play a team who started a 6-7 forward at center in their most recent game due to an injury to Clint Capela.

Rockets Analysis

Houston RocketsIn a recent preview, we talked about the need for James Harden to get more scoring help, especially from Eric Gordon.

Gordon delivered on Saturday night in a 138-134 overtime win over the Los Angeles Lakers with 30 points. Harden was his usual dominant self with 48 points, eight rebounds, and six assists, and Gerald Green came off the bench for 17.

While the Lakers did look to attack Houston’s thin front line, the Rockets, starting P.J. Tucker at center, found a way to make it all work, but they’ll have a much bigger challenge tonight in Embiid.
