Philadelphia 76ers vs. Sacramento Kings Matchup Preview (11/22/21)

The Philadelphia 76ers will be quite far from home when they take on the Sacramento Kings on November 22 in the Golden 1 Center. These two teams are on losing streaks and need to switch some things up to turn around their seasons. The Sacramento Kings did just that when they fired Luke Walton and named Alvin Gentry the interim head coach. While it is still to be seen whether or not Gentry is a long-term fit for the Kings, this will certainly be a positive catalyst for an organization experiencing a lot of turmoil. Meanwhile, Philadelphia will still be without its two best players, Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons; however, Tyrese Maxey has played like an All-Star for the past few weeks, which is a massive positive for the Sixers’ organization. Defense will be the deciding factor in this matchup as both teams can score but have struggled at the other end of the floor.

Surprisingly, despite the Sixers’ tumble, they are still 5-4 on the road, while the Kings are merely 2-6 at home, which is near the worst in the league. I like the Sixers on the road here as they are bound to break out of this losing streak sooner versus later with how well Tyrese Maxey has been playing.

Philadelphia 76ers Analysis

Like many other NBA teams this season, the Philadelphia 76ers have been on the wildest of roller coasters. Throughout the beginning of this season, the Sixers have dealt with injury after injury and multiple players winding up in the COVID health and safety protocol, including Joel Embiid, Tobias Harris, Isaiah Joe, Matisse Thybulle, Shake Milton, and Danny Green. Harris, Thybulle, and Milton are fully healthy and active, but the others are still dealing with injuries and the health and safety protocols. Additionally, Philadelphia will still be without Ben Simmons, who is not cleared as “mentally ready to play.” There is no timetable for his return at the moment. The Sixers have been sliding drastically, dropping six of their past seven games, despite the absolutely unbelievable play of Tyrese Maxey, who has averaged 25.7 points, 4.5 assists, 3.8 rebounds in his past six games. His shooting splits have been unbelievable, but everyone else has not played very well. Their only win during that time was on the road against the Denver Nuggets, who are struggling just as much, if not more. The Sixers have to break this slide soon if they want to stay on track for making the playoffs. If they want to do that, they will need to rebound a lot better as they rank dead-last in that area. Statistically, the Sixers rank well offensively but are right around average defensively. The eventual return of Embiid should help them improve in that area.

Sacramento Kings Analysis

The Sacramento Kings have had promising moments this season, but ultimately they are still not very good. They just fired Luke Walton, and now, Alvin Gentry will be the interim head coach for the Kings. This should be a good shift in momentum for Sacramento, regardless of whether Gentry is a long-term fit or not. Clearly, there was turmoil in the organization, especially since Marvin Bagley III refused to check into a game. Despite being a very high draft pick just a few years ago, Bagley III has only played in four games in the 2021-22 season. Through the Kings’ first 17 games, rookie Davion Mitchell, veteran Harrison Barnes, and young star De’Aaron Fox have all been bright lights. Barnes is playing the best basketball in his entire career, even better than when he was the No. 1 option in Dallas. Luckily, the Kings have stayed healthy for the most part this season and have not been missing any key players. The Kings suffer from many of the same issues that limited them last season, which is primarily on the defensive end of the floor. Currently, they rank 26th in opponent points per game and 23rd in defensive efficiency. For Sacramento to shake this three-game losing streak, two of which were to below-average teams, it will need to play much better defense.

Philadelphia 76ers vs. Sacramento Kings Daily Fantasy Picks

Tyrese Maxey has been playing some of the best basketball of any player in the NBA recently. If you think that may be a tad dramatic, let me explain why it is actually an understatement. Maxey is averaging 18.4 points, 4.6 assists, and 3.7 rebounds on the season; however, in his past six games, he has averaged 25.7 points, 4.5 assists, and 3.8 rebounds on a mind-boggling 57/48/92 shooting split. These numbers hardly make sense. Maxey still does not have the salary in DFS of some of the usual suspects, so you would be hard-pressed to find a better value than him right now, especially with Joel Embiid still out. Maxey needs a permanently increased workload in the Sixers’ offense regardless of Embiid’s status, and he should be a 20 points per game player for the foreseeable future.

Harrison Barnes has had the best season of his career, albeit very early, averaging the most points and rebounds so far. Barnes has slowed down since his unbelievably hot start to the 2021-22 season but has put up some solid games this month, including a 22 point outing against the Pacers and 26 points against the Phoenix Suns. Barnes is a candidate for continued regression, but that does not mean he still can’t drop 20 points any given night, especially after his increased confidence in himself.
