Phillip Lindsay Fantasy Football Outlook & Value 2019

Position Ranking- RB16, ADP- 4.07, Auction Value($200)- $22, Team- DEN, BYE- 10

Despite being undrafted, Phillip Lindsay made an instant impact for the Denver Broncos. The Broncos may have drafted another running back in the first round with Royce Freeman, but Lindsay proved to be too good not to start. Lindsay fell in the draft in large part due to his incredibly small size, but he makes up for it with impressive athleticism and speed. In a Broncos offense that for the most part disappointed last year, Lindsay ended up being the highest graded player on the team, according to Pro Football Focus.

The Broncos are going through some pretty significant changes, with a new coach and quarterback coming. Still, it’s expected that the Broncos offense will remain run oriented. Whether it makes sense or not, they’ll be trying to make a run in the AFC. If they even want to have a puncher’s chance, the offense will have to significantly improve. They ranked 19th in yardage and 24th in total scoring, although their rushing attack ranked 12th in yardage. The Broncos are expecting that Lindsay lead the way in the new improved offense. He spent last season proving he belongs in the league, now he needs to prove he can be a leader.

Upside

Lindsay asserted himself right out of the gate, recording two straight 100 yard games to start off the season. At the end of the season, he accumulated almost 1300 all purpose yards and found the end zone 10 times. He’s expected to be an even more integral part of the Broncos offense this season, so he may get even more touches. Lindsay is also a factor in the receiving game, thanks to his speed and agility. His ceiling is 1100 rushing yards, 400 receiving yards, and 15 total touchdowns.

Floor

Lindsay came out of nowhere last season and surprised defenses across the league. The element of surprise will be gone for this season however, as teams should know the danger he poses now. It’s also hard to see him sustaining his ridiculous 5.4 yards per rushing attempt mark, so a drop in efficiency should probably be expected. His volume should increase, but there’s a possibility the Broncos look to get Royce Freeman more involved. After all, he was their first round pick and they can’t just dump him after one season. There might also be concerns about whether he can make it through a full season as a starter, considering his small stature. His floor for this year should be 700 rushing yards, 150 receiving yards, and 7 total touchdowns.

What to Expect

Denver BroncosLindsay is currently ranked as the 16th best running back and has an auction value of $22. He’s projected to be drafted in the 4th round. All things considered, this is a pretty fair valuation of Lindsay. He should definitely be one of the most coveted RB2s in the draft, and his price tag is pretty reasonable. When looking at some other players of similar talent, Lindsay’s price tag looks even better. For example, Dalvin Cook, who has never had a season as productive as Lindsay, has a price tag almost twice as much.

Understandably, a lot of people aren’t too hot on Joe Flacco coming in and significantly improving the Broncos offense. But that doesn’t mean they should be overlooking Lindsay. Yes, it’s true Royce Freeman will likely see a bigger role, but that doesn’t necessarily equate too less opportunities for Lindsay. He’s just too good and dynamic to not utilize. Personally, I doubt the Broncos go very far in the AFC, but I do think Lindsay continues to be a stud. I foresee another 1000 yard rushing season, with 400 receiving yards and 12 total touchdowns.
