Phoenix Suns vs. Atlanta Hawks Matchup Preview (2/3/22)
Phoenix will look to extend its winning streak to 12 games in Atlanta when it takes on the Hawks in State Farm Arena. The Suns have their second-longest winning streak in the 2021-22 NBA season, only behind their league-leading 18-game winning streak. Devin Booker and Chris Paul have taken over for this Suns team, and their leadership and winning DNA have become contagious in that organization. Booker, in particular, has been on fire since getting into it with the Toronto Raptors’ mascot on January 11th. Booker averaged 32 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game in the ten games after that. You could make an argument that those are MVP-caliber numbers, especially when playing on the league’s best team. Phoenix will be a tough team to beat now and in the playoffs, if he and Paul keep this up. Surprisingly, the Hawks are on a bit of a roll themselves; they have won seven of their past eight games after starting the season with a 17-25 record through 42 games. This game should be close, especially if we get a solid game from Trae Young. Take a look below at my analysis of the game and the odds.
Phoenix Suns vs. Atlanta Hawks Betting Odds
This season, Atlanta has not done well as a home dog, going 1-3 in State Farm Arena. Currently, the line has Phoenix as five-point favorites, but expect this to move a bit tomorrow. As I mentioned above, the Hawks have won seven of their past eight, with their only loss coming against the Raptors without Trae Young. I would lean ever so slightly towards the Suns ATS, but it is far from a lock as Atlanta and Young have played exceptionally well.

Phoenix Suns Analysis
The Suns’ most recent win marks their 11th straight and the second time they have achieved a double-digit win streak in the 2021-22 NBA season. So much of this can be attributed to the coaching, leadership, experience, and “next man up” mentality that I have spoken about so much throughout the season. Now, Phoenix has Jae Crowder and Deandre Ayton back in the lineup, so it is just as dangerous as it has ever been. The Suns are a top-three team in the league on offense and defense, and Chris Paul is the majority of the reason why. There is a culture that has been established since he got to Phoenix that has helped the team become a consistent winner. Atlanta is the type of team that Phoenix would typically dispose of quickly; however, the Hawks are riding quite the hot streak at the moment.

Atlanta Hawks Analysis
This season, Atlanta has underperformed on all accounts after making a deep postseason run last year. The Hawks were 17-25 and closer to the bottom of the Eastern Conference than they had been in quite a while before rattling off seven straight wins. Atlanta scored close to 120 points per game during that stretch while shooting 51% from the floor and 38% from deep. The Hawks also had stepped up majorly on the defensive end, allowing just a hair over 107 points per game on 43% from the field. Even in their most recent game, when they lost at home to the Raptors, they only allowed 42.7% shooting to Toronto. This progression is a major positive, especially if they still plan on making a run at the postseason; however, I’m still a bit skeptical.
Phoenix Suns vs. Atlanta Hawks Daily Fantasy Picks
Recommending any player besides Trae Young in DFS would be somewhat negligible. There’s a reason that Young is starting in the All-Star game, despite being on a losing team: he’s unstoppable on offense. Young averages 27.7 points, 9.3 assists, and 4.1 rebounds per game in the 2021-22 NBA season. However, in his past 20 games, he has been even more sensational, putting up almost 30 points per game. Trae is one of the hottest players in the game today, and he has even led the Hawks to a 7-1 record in their past eight games. It should come as no surprise to the everyday DFS player that Trae Young has a high salary and is not a player you should utilize in every game. Still, this game feels like an opportunity for Young to drop a considerable number on the NBA’s best team; he surely still feels like he has a lot to prove in this league.
It should go without saying, but Chris Paul is an all-time great point guard, perhaps even in the top four or five in the history of the NBA. This season further proves that point as he has not slowed down one bit at age 36. Paul has also helped create a winning culture in Phoenix upon his arrival; the Suns were hardly winning between the end of the Steve Nash, Amare Stoudamire, and Shawn Marion era until the year before Paul arrived. Since joining the Suns, Paul has helped take Phoenix to the NBA Finals and made them a relevant NBA team again and a serious championship contender this season. On the season, Paul has averaged 15 points and 10.5 rebounds; however, he has been even better as of late. Paul has been dropping an astounding stat line of 20 points, 13 assists, and six rebounds per game on 57% from the field and 45% from behind the arc in his past seven games. There is likely no better time to scoop Chris Paul and plug him into your DFS lineups than now. The Suns have their second-largest winning streak of the season still intact, so continue to expect this level of greatness.
