Phoenix Suns at Golden State Warriors 3/10/19: Starting Lineups, Matchup Preview, Betting Odds

Phoenix Suns at Golden State Warriors Preview

The Phoenix Suns have been eliminated from playoff contention and they don’t have much to play for and really have more to lose for at this point. If that wasn’t on the table, they will also be on the road against the Golden State Warriors.

The Warriors are 45-20 and are first place in the Western Conference, with a two-game advantage over the Denver Nuggets. They won their last game and are 5-5 in their last 10. Phoenix is dead last in the West with a 15-52 record. They lost their last game and are 4-6 in their last game.

In their last matchup back on February 8, the Warriors cruised to a 117-107 victory. Klay Thompson led the Warriors with 25 points and Kelly Oubre Jr. had 25 for the Suns.

Suns Analysis

phoenix sunsThe Phoenix Suns surprisingly put together a few wins, stringing together three consecutive wins over the Los Angeles Lakers, Milwaukee Bucks, and New York Knicks at home before losing on the road against the Portland Trail Blazers.

“Everybody is playing for something,” Suns coach Igor Kokoskov said. “Everybody is going to be on a mission to win the next one. We have to accept the challenge.”

Tanking doesn’t seem to be in the plans for the Suns, but they’ll face a stiff challenge tonight in the Warriors in the second game of a back-to-back. The Suns allowed a 42-point second quarter from the Blazers but tried to rally back as they outscored Portland 43-25 in the fourth, but it wasn’t enough to complete the comeback for a fourth straight win.

Four of the Suns’ five starters scored in double figures, led by Devin Booker’s 23 points. Rookie center DeAndre Ayton had 21 points and eight rebounds. Kelly Oubre Jr. finished with 17 and Tyler Johnson added 14 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists.

Warriors Analysis

Golden State Warriors

The Golden State Warriors have lost four of their last seven games but were able to get a big win against the second-place Denver Nuggets 122-105.

The Warriors were apparently motivated by getting blown out by the Boston Celtics in their previous game.

“We are not going to play with that energy every night. I’m not going to sit here and lie and act like we are,” forward Draymond Green said. “But we can play with that focus every night, and I think that’s more important here going down the stretch.”

They definitely seemed focused against the Nuggets as they led Denver in every quarter except for the third.

Klay Thompson returned to the lineup and went off for 39 points, knocking down 9-of-11 three-point attempts. Kevin Durant had 26 points, Steph Curry had 17 and DeMarcus Cousins played 28 minutes, finishing with 13 points, six rebounds, six assists, three steals, and six big blocks.
