Providence Vs. Kansas Odds, Picks, and Predictions (3/25/22)
Contents
This year’s March Madness tournament has been shaping up to be one of the most bracket-breaking seasons we have ever seen. As we enter the Sweet 16, many big names are still in the tournament, like the #1 Kansas Jayhawks and the #4 Providence Friars. These two teams are the top teams left in the Midwest region of the tournament and are facing off to enter the elite eight to play the winner of the #11 Iowa State Cyclones or the #10 Miami Hurricanes. This matchup will be one of the most crucial games for these teams as the competition continues to get more demanding through the weeks and is set for Friday, March 25th, at 7:29 PM EST and can be viewed on TBS.
Providence vs. Kansas Betting Odds
This matchup is going to be one of the most crucial games in the Midwest region. Providence and Kansas are facing their toughest competition yet, and as we have learned in the March Madness games so far, anything can happen. Going into the matchup, Kansas is the favorite to make it to the next round with a spread of -7.5 (-110). This leaves Providence with the underdog spread of +7.5 (-110). Both teams have shown great basketball throughout the tournament, but Providence has shown more versatility and has won by higher margins to higher-ranked teams. Kansas is a superior basketball program that has proven to be a force to be reckoned with, but their most recent game against Creighton leaves room for doubt. However, doubting the Kansas offensive is never something to take out of the equation. In the end, Kansas is going to be the team to beat in this region, and they should be able to take down this Providence team to advance onto the next round.
My Prediction: Kansas Wins 74-67, Providence Covers
Providence Odds
The Providence Friars have been making their way through the March Madness bracket by taking down the #13 South Dakota State Jackrabbits and the #12 Richmond Spiders. Their toughest matchup to date is against the Kansas Jayhawks, who escaped with a close win in their last match. The Friars have shown exceptional basketball throughout the tournament, averaging 72.5 points in the postseason. Their leading asset has been the senior forward Noah Horchler, who has led the team in points and assists in both tournament wins. He is averaging 14.5 points per game and 12.5 rebounds per game during March Madness. He has dominated the paint and had great success from beyond the three-point line in clutch moments. Against Kansas, he may struggle against the aggressive defense, but with the versatility of Nate Watson and Al Durham, this team stands a fighting chance. The key to success in this game is all about perimeter defense, which they have not shown huge strength with throughout the year. If they can focus on shutting down Ochai Agbaji and staying strong in the paint, we may be able to see another upset in the Midwest region.
Kansas Odds
The Kansas Jayhawks walked into this tournament as one of the most highly anticipated to win the Championship title. They walked away with the Big 12 title and have made it to the Sweet 16. However, last week, they had a close call against the #9 Creighton Bluejays. Creighton showed great strength along the perimeter that left the Jayhawks in deficits at certain points throughout the game. Kansas had great shots around the court, shooting 40.9% as a team, and completely outrebounded Creighton with 47 rebounds in the game. Kansas will need to have that same defensive energy against Providence to ensure the ball stays in their possession. Ochai Agbaji only made five shots in the entirety of that game, which is incredibly low compared to his usual performances. Creighton was able to apply aggressive pressure on the guard, which forced Kansas to utilize their other offensive weapons like Remi Martin, who scored 20 points. Providence completely covered the perimeter in their last game against Richmond, so Kansas may want to consider their forwards to take on a more prominent role in their offense for this game.
Providence vs. Kansas Picks & Prediction
The brackets for this year’s March Madness have been all over the place due to crazy upsets and unpredictable play by many teams. Looking at this Providence v Kansas matchup, there is fear for another opportunity to derail brackets even more. DraftKings has a solid halftime spread of -4 (-110) for Kansas and +4 (-110) for Providence that could have the promise to hit. Many of these March Madness games have had very close margins at the half, so taking Providence +4 at halftime is more reliable than the overall spread.
