Robert Foster Fantasy Football Outlook & Value 2019

Position Ranking– WR34, ADP-14.06, Auction Value ($200)– $3, Team– BUF, Bye– 6

On Twitter, NFL analyst Cian thinks that “Robert Foster looks like the odd man out in Buffalo’s receiver depth chart. If that proves true NFL teams should be fighting to trade for him in August”. That’s certainly high praise for Foster who could either become Buffalo’s top WR or sitting on the bench.

The Buffalo Bills run a 3 wide receiver set and ranked 20th as a team offense in 2018. The passing game ranked 31st in passing yards and 30th in passing TDs. Receivers Zay Jones and Robert Foster led the way though neither had over 700 receiving yards. The team will look for a complete season of Josh Allen who only accumulated 2,074 passing yards. As a team, the Bills only threw for 13 passing touchdowns, 10 of which went to Jones and Foster.

Upside

Robert Foster will act as the second wideout on the Bills depth chart behind Zay Jones. He was good for 541 receiving yards and 3 TDs. Even as the #2 WR, Roster was only targeted 4.8% of the time. Playing a full season, there’s definitely room for him to improve and reach a larger target volume in his 2nd professional season. It’s anyone’s guess who quarterback Josh Allen will trust the most in his second season. If Foster can step up, there’s potential for a 800 receiving yard season and 6 TDs.

Floor

On the contrary, we could see Foster continue his production last year and quickly fall behind Jones again. Buffalo also brought in John Brown and Cole Beasley to help the receiving corps so there might be even more competition for Foster. If he starts the year slow or struggles, he could find himself fourth in the pecking order and possibly out of playing time. His projected floor should be 400 receiving yards and 3 TDs.

What to Expect

Buffalo BillsFoster is currently ranked as the 34th wide receiver off the board and holds an auction value of $3. He’s currently projected to have 14th round draft value. Foster offers a nice hit or miss draft pick that could either become the Bill’s top receiver or out of a job. Buffalo doesn’t have a clear #1 receiver and Foster could easily become that this year. However, he has the least experience of the other top 4 wideouts and the Bills could choose to go for a more veteran led receiving corps.

With an auction value of $3, fantasy owners believe he will be a low risk, high reward option. The same goes for his 14th round valuation as there’s a shot he could work your way into your lineup. Foster has the potential to be a WR3 but for the time being, remains more of a FLEX option or someone to stash on your bench. While he isn’t a premium receiver by any means, you won’t have to pay a premium price for him.

In the same round, other targets include Marquise Goodwin, DeVante Parker, and Mohaned Sanu. If it were me, I’d much rather draft Goodwin and possibly the other two in this scenario. Similar auction price targets include John Brown, Kenny Stills, and Donte Moncrief. While these names are safer and have more reliable career stats, Foster gives the most boom or bust potential out of the group.

Foster’s rookie year was decent though Allen didn’t put a lot of trust in him. We’ll see whether he can be targeted more than 4.8% of the time and if he can develop into the top receiver in the Buffalo system. He’ll be given first shot to be in the starting lineup come opening day but his performance should dictate whether he stays in that role. Expect a 600 yard receiving season and 4 TDs from Foster in his sophomore campaign.
