San Antonio Spurs vs. Charlotte Hornets Preview
The Western Conference’s seventh-place team, the San Antonio Spurs (25-19) will host eighth-place team in the East, the Charlotte Hornets (19-23).
It will be Charlotte point guard Tony Parker’s first trip back to San Antonio, where he played his entire NBA career before this season and won three championships.
Parker should get a warm welcome from Spurs fans, but San Antonio won’t be as generous as handing him an automatic win with his new club. Charlotte has lost their last three games and have won only three of their last 10 games. They currently have a half-point lead over the surging Orlando Magic for the eighth spot.
San Antonio, one of the better home teams in the league, is 18-5 at the AT&T Center and hope to keep their current home streak going. They are looking for a win after beating the Oklahoma City Thunder last week in double overtime before losing in regulation two days later on the road in OKC.
This will be the first meeting of these clubs this season. The last game was played November 25, 2017, with the Spurs winning 106-86. Both teams definitely look different from the teams that faced off last season.

Spurs Analysis
The Spurs will be back home tonight after their home-and-home series with the Oklahoma City Thunder ended 1-1, with OKC getting the win on Saturday night 122-112.
San Antonio started the game out strong much like their double-overtime win two days prior, but a pivotal third quarter with the Spurs only managing to score 20, while the Thunder scored 35, seemed to be a difference-maker.
The Spurs seemed to do well offensively, especially with Marco Belinelli following up his excellent game on Thursday night with 24 points on Saturday.
Pau Gasol was inserted into the starting lineup and that didn’t seem to fare well. He finished with two points and six rebounds and struggled with Oklahoma City’s more mobile, athletic big men Steven Adams and Jerami Grant. San Antonio had done well with Jakob Poeltl starting and adding some extra energy and serving as a bit of a disruptor, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they turn to him again tonight.

Hornets Analysis
In a homecoming for Parker and head coach James Borrego, the Hornets hope to end their three-game skid. They’ve lost badly in those games to the Trail Blazers, Clippers and Kings, and hope they’ll finish the game with the same warm feelings Parker will start the night with.
The Kings game was the closest of the three games, and although Kemba Walker scored 31 points, it wasn’t enough against the young Kings, who they’ll face again this week. They had no answer for Sacramento’s guard tandem of De’Aaron Fox and Buddy Hield, and Bogdan Bogdanovic was once again a difference maker off the bench.
Walker will need more from his supporting cast tonight against the Spurs. He was one of only four Hornets in double figures. Bismack Biyombo, who put up just four points on Saturday will have his hands full with LaMarcus Aldridge, who joined the 50-point club last week.
But if there’s one club that has some knowledge about the Spurs and will know how to gameplan, it’s the Hornets. Parker likely has more of the Spurs corporate knowledge than more than half of the current team, and Borrego rose through the ranks in San Antonio quickly and was a trusted assistant to Gregg Popovich.

DraftKings & FanDuel Fantasy Picks
DeMar DeRozan ($8.9k) and Kemba Walker ($8.6k) are fantasy standouts for tonight’s game. DeRozan had struggled offensively for a few games, but he seemed to find his shot in the game against the Thunder on Saturday. FanDuel has him projected for 43.21 points. Walker has been Charlottes unquestioned offsensive leader, and even if he’s the only one doing it, he puts up the numbers for the Hornets. He is projected for 41.05 tonight.
Value players for tonight are Derrick White ($5.9k), who is projected for 28.53 points and Nicolas Batum ($5.5k) who FanDuel has slated for a 27.25 point game.
