San Diego Padres Vs. Logan Webb (R)

Star third baseman, Manny Machado has five hits (two doubles) in 20 at-bats to start the 2022 season with three runs batted in.  Last season, he hit .278 with 28 home runs and 106 runs batted in while making his first All-Star appearance as a Padre.  Additionally last year he had 276 total bases, .489 slugging percentage and an OPS of .836.  Against the Giants Logan Webb last season, Machado had two hits with an RBI in nine at-bats.  Jake Cronenworth has four hits in first 18 at-bats this season, with three runs batted in.  Last season as a first time All-Star, Cronenworth hit .266 with 21 home runs, 71 runs batted in with 261 total bases.  He also had an OPS of .800 and a slugging percentage of .460.  In nine at-bats against Logan Webb last season, he had three hits. 

 Trent Grisham has four hits in 21 at-bats this season.  In 2021, Grisham hit .242 with 15 home runs, 28 doubles, 191 total bases and an OPS of .740.  Against San Francisco’s Webb last season, Grisham had four hits in nine at-bats with an OPS of 1.067.  Wil Myers hit 17 home runs, drove in 63 runs, hit 24 doubles with 192 total bases and an OPS of .768.  In nine at-bats against Webb last year he had three hits (a homer and three runs batted) for an OPS of 1.111.  Jackson Profar has started the season on fire with five hits in his first 14 at-bats, hitting two home runs and driving in seven runs.  Profar had three hits in five at-bats (three runs batted in) against Webb in 2021. 

Logan Webb was 11-3 for the Giants last season with an ERA of 3.03 in 27 games (26 starts).  The San Francisco ace struck out 158 batters in 148 1/3 innings while allowing 50 earned runs of the season.  In his only start of the season last Friday, Webb threw six innings while allowing one earned run and striking out three batters.

San Francisco Giants Vs. Sean Manaea (L)

Brandon Crawford hit .298 last season with 24 home runs, 30 doubles, 252 total bases and 90 runs batted in.  The 2021 All-Star had a .522 slugging percentage with an OPS of .895.  He has three hits in his first 15 at-bats in 2022.  In 13 at-bats against Sean Manaea (who was an Athletic last season), Crawford had five hits with two runs driven in with an OPS of .857.  Brandon Belt another important bat in the Giants lineup, has five hits with an RBI in 12 at-bats to start the 2022 season.  In 2021, he was injured at the end of the year, but hit 29 home runs in 325 at-bats.  In 13 at-bats last year against Manaea, the left-handed swinging first baseman had two hits against the lefty.

Mike Yastrzemski has started off the 2022 season in a slump with one hit in 10 at-bats.   Last year, he hit 25 home runs, 28 doubles, 214 total bases and an OPS of .768.  In four at-bats last season against Manaea, Yastrzemski had two hits with two runs batted in.  Joc Pederson fresh off his second World Series championship (Dodgers – 2020 and Braves – 2021), the left-handed hitting outfielder has started his Giants career with two hits in eight at-bats.  For his career Pederson has belted 148 home runs with an OPS of .794.  He did have an at-bat against Manaea in 2021.

In his first start for Padres against Arizona last Friday, Sean Manaea tossed seven scoreless innings to get the win.  He struck out seven batters while throwing 88 pitches in the game.  Manaea was acquired from Oakland on April 3, 2022.  Last season with the Athletics, the lefty was 11-10 in 32 starts with an ERA of 3.91.  He struck out 194 batters in 179 innings last season, while leading the American League in shutouts (two) and complete games (two).

Over is 6-2 in the Padres last eight during game three of a series.  San Diego is 16-35 in their last 51 games on grass.  Giants are 47-21 in their last 68 overall.  Under is 5-2 in San Francisco’s last seven Wednesday games.  Under is 5-2 in Giants last seven home games vs. a left-handed starter.  I’m going to take the Giants in this battle of National League West foes by more than 1.5 runs with the teams scoring under seven runs combined.
