In 2021, the San Francisco Giants were 107-55, first in the National League West.  In the playoffs they lost to the Los Angeles 3-2 in the Division Series.  Since their last championship in 2014, San Francisco has made two playoff appearance (2016 and 2021).  Gabe Kapler in his third year as the Giants skipper has won over 300 games as a big-league manager.  This season, San Francisco has started the year, 7-2.  Last season the Mets finished a disappointing third in the National League East with a 77-85 record.  The poor finish to the 2021 season campaign led New York to fire manager Luis Rojas and hire Buck Showalter, who’s won over 1,500 games as a major league manager with the New York Yankees, Arizona Diamondbacks, Texas Rangers, and Baltimore Orioles.  New York’s last appearance in the playoffs was in 2016; losing at home to the San Francisco Giants in the wild card game.  In 2022, the Mets have started the season 7-3.

Over is 4-0 in the Giants last four Tuesday games.  San Francisco is 8-0 in Logan Webb’s last eight Tuesday starts.  The Giants are 6-0 in Webb’s last six starts during game two of a series.  San Francisco is +2800 to win their fourth World Series title in last 15 years; the Giants won championships in 2010, 2012 and 2014.  The Mets are 5-2 in their last seven Tuesday games.  Over is 3-1-1 in New York’s last five Tuesday games.  The Mets are 4-13 in their last 17 meetings vs. National League West opponents.  The Mets are +1200 to win the 2022 World Series, their first title since 1986.

San Francisco Giants Vs. Max Scherzer (R)

Brandon Crawford hit .298 last season with 24 home runs, 30 doubles, 252 total bases and 90 runs batted in.  The 2021 All-Star had a .522 slugging percentage with an OPS of .895.  To start the new season, Crawford has six hits in his first 28 at-bats: one home run and one RBI.  In 15 at-bats against Scherzer last season, the Giants shortstop had six hits; two home runs, five runs batted in for a .400 batting average with a staggering OPS of 1.438.  Brandon Belt another important bat in the Giants lineup, has 10 hits in 29 at-bats in 2022, three home runs and seven runs batted in.  Additionally, he has a slugging percentage of .690 and an OPS of 1.131.  In 2021, he was injured at the end of the year, but hit 29 home runs in 325 at-bats.  In 12 at-bats against Scherzer last season he had three hits. 

Mike Yastrzemski has started off the 2022 season in a slump with four hits in 24 at-bats with one RBI.  Last year, he hit 25 home runs, 28 doubles, 214 total bases and an OPS of .768.  He did not have an at-bat against Scherzer last season.  Joc Pederson fresh off his second World Series championship (Dodgers – 2020 and Braves – 2021), the left-handed hitting outfielder has started his Giants career with eight hits in 22 at-bats: two home runs, two runs batted in for an OPS of 1.053.  For his career Pederson has belted 150 home runs with an OPS of .796.  In 16 at-bats against, Scherzer who was pitching for the Washington Nationals last season, he had two hits and three walks.  Catcher Joey Bart who’s replacing the legendary Buster Posey has started off the 2022 season well with two home runs, four runs batted in, with a .591 slugging percentage and an OPS of .976.

In two starts in his first season as a New York Met, Max Scherzer is 2-0 with a 3.27 ERA in 11 innings pitched.  He has 13 strikeouts with a WHIP of 1.091 while allowing four earned runs this campaign.  The three-time Cy Young winner has a lifetime record of 192-97 with an ERA of 3.16 with 3,033 strikeouts in 2,547 2/3 innings with a WHIP of 1.084.

New York Mets Vs. Logan Webb (R)

In his third year in the big leagues, Pete Alonso smashed 37 home runs, drove in 97 runs, hit a career high .262 with an OPS of .863 in 2021.  The Mets first baseman is averaging 46 home runs and 109 RBI with a .542 slugging percentage in a full 162 game schedule. To start the 2022 season, Alonso leads the National League in runs batted in with 14.  He’s added three home runs with 21 total bases and an OPS of .827.  New York’s number 20 had one hit (a home run), in four at-bats against the Giants Logan Webb last season.  The New York slugger opened the year at +3000 to win his first National League MVP award.  Francisco Lindor struggled in his first season as a Met but did start to play well after the All-Star break.  In 2021, the shortstop hit .230 with 20 home runs, 63 runs batted in, 73 runs scored and an OPS of .734.  The second year, Met enters the 2022 season with 1,000 career hits and a .278 lifetime batting average.  The New York infielder is batting .273 to start the new season (9-33).  He’s tied for the team lead in home runs with three and has driven in seven runs with 20 total bases for an OPS of 1.048.  Lindor did not have an at-bat against San Francisco’s Webb last season.  Jeff McNeil a lifetime .300 career hitter, hit .251 in 2021.  He hit seven home runs, knocked in 51 runs with an on base percentage .319 in 386 at-bats.  McNeil leads the Mets in hits with 11 (in 32 at-bats) in 2022.  New York’s number one has hit a home run, driven in four runs with 14 total bases for an OPS of .885 this year.  McNeil was 0-3 last season against Logan Webb.

Starling Marte entering his first season as New York Met, hit .310 with 12 home runs and 55 runs batted in playing for the Marlins and Athletics last season.  Overall Marte had 42 extra base hits and an OPS of .841.  The outfielder is second on New York in runs batted in with 10 this season.  He’s hitting .263 with two home runs and has an OPS of .764 in 2022.  Marte had two hits against the Giants Webb during the 2021 season. 

Logan Webb was 11-3 for the Giants last season with an ERA of 3.03 in 27 games (26 starts).  The San Francisco ace struck out 158 batters in 148 1/3 innings while allowing 50 earned runs of the season.  In two starts this season, Webb is 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA.  He has struck out 10 batters in 14 innings pitched with a WHIP of .714.

San Francisco is 16-5 in their last 21 during game two of a series.  Under is 5-2 in the Giants last seven during game two of a series.  San Francisco is 5-1 in their last six Tuesday games.  The Giants are averaging 4.72 runs per nine innings this season.  The Mets are 3-8 in their last 11 during game two of a series.  Under is 10-2 in New York’s last 12 games vs. National League West foes.  Under is 14-3-1 in the Mets last 18 games vs. a team with a winning percentage above .600.  New York is averaging 5.22 run per nine innings in 2022.  I’ll take the hometown New York Mets to win this game by over 1.5 runs and the clubs to stay under a combined six runs due to the outstanding matchup of Logan Webb vs. Max Scherzer.
