San Fransisco 49ers vs. Dallas Cowboys Matchup Preview (1/15/22)
The NFL Wild Card weekend is underway after seeing exciting performances from teams to claw their way into the postseason schedule. One of those teams is the San Francisco 49ers and won their spot in the postseason after a thrilling last-minute overtime win over the Los Angeles Rams. The Cowboys clinched their playoff spot weeks ago but still played their starter in their last game against the Philadelphia Eagles to get more reps to improve play before starting their Wild Card journey. This matchup will come down to the battle of the receivers, with the 49ers having the incomparable DeeBo Samuel and the Cowboys having the duo of Ceedee Lamb and the newly electric Cedrick Wilson. The two teams will drive a hard bargain and will give us one of the more exciting Wild Card games on Sunday, January 16th, at 3:30 PM CST at AT&T stadium in Arlington, Texas.
San Fransisco 49ers vs. Dallas Cowboys Betting Odds
The San Francisco 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys have fought their way to winning seasons and have shown a heightened sense of gameplay. Many fans suspect a close game as they meet for the first time this year. DraftKings placed the spread in favor of the Cowboys with -3.5 (-110) and gave the 49ers a close margin with +3.5 (-110). The Cowboys are the number one team in the nation for scoring points in a game, with an extremely high average of 31 per match. The 49ers score an average of 25 points per game but can easily surpass that against a solid competitor. The Cowboys also have the best record against the spread going 13-4 (76.5%). The 49ers have improved their ATS record in their last nine games, going 7-2 for the latter half of the season. The contest between both teams will fall down to huge defensive stops of the teams’ best receivers and who can apply the most pressure on the opponent’s quarterback. Based on the regular-season play, the Cowboys should emerge victoriously and be able to cover the spread, but I wouldn’t totally rule out the 49ers after their intense win against the Los Angeles Rams last week.
My Prediction: Cowboys Win 34-25, Cowboys cover, Over 50.5

San Fransisco 49ers Analysis
The San Francisco 49ers started their season with a series of rocky performances, going 2-4 in the first six weeks. However, the team has been able to shape up and find a groove that has landed them in the playoffs. Their success is primarily attributed to the connection made by quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and wide receiver Deebo Samuel. The duo leaves defenses confused and unprepared with the pass and rush ability of the combination and has led the team to one of the greatest connections in the league.
Last week, the team’s quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo returned from the IR after suffering from a thumb sprain that left him on the sideline for their matchup against the Houston Texans. Garoppolo stepped up, even when he was still questionable, to play in the final game of the regular season against the Rams that secured their playoff spot. On the season, Garoppolo has 3,810 yards for 20 touchdown passes. He averaged 254 yards per game and ended his regular season with an average of 319 yards per game in his last two games. Garoppolo needs to prove himself in this matchup against the Dallas Cowboys to try to keep his spot as QB1 as talk about replacing him with rookie Trey Lance continues to be a headline.
Deebo Samuel is one of the most incredible receivers in the league this year. Not only does he have the fifth-most yards in the league (1,405 yards), but he also has impressive rushing yards for a wide receiver (365 yards). Samuel has the best average yardage per reception, with 18.2 yards per completion. Odds are, if Samuel can come down with the ball, the defense is in trouble. Against the Cowboys, Deebo will be up against the leading interception forcer in the league, Trevon Diggs. The key to winning in a matchup against Diggs is to be patient and accurate. Most of his picks come off of tips from receivers, so Samuel will need to focus on completing the catch so as not to give Diggs another opportunity to increase his interception record for the Dallas team.

Dallas Cowboys Analysis
The Dallas Cowboys have secured their #4 seed in the 2021 NFL postseason after having a three-year drought of ending their year at the end of the regular season. They’re walking into the playoffs with a regular-season record of 12-5 and an NFC East division champion title. After smoking the Philadelphia Eagles last week, the Cowboys have gained some missing confidence and are ready to face their first-round opponents of the 49ers.
Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott has been under fire recently for having a “slump” in his play the past few weeks, but all slander was silenced after an incredible performance in Philadelphia. Despite the criticisms of the franchise quarterback, Prescott ranks as one of the best QBs in the league. In the regular season, he put up 4,449 passing yards for 37 touchdown passes. This leaves him with an average of 278 yards and 2.3 touchdown passes per match. Last week, he broke his personal passing touchdown record in a game with five in one game, proving he’s emerged from his slump. Prescott will need to have a quick release against the top 10 defense of the 49ers to avoid easy sacks. The 49ers’ defense has the fifth-most sacks in the league and will likely apply ample pressure onto #4 to force an error. As long as Dak can keep his composure and focus in the face of pressure, this Dallas offense can utilize all players on the field.
The Cowboys have a great variety of powerful weapons on their offense that keep the options open for an unpredictable play call. The rush option is locked down by Ezekiel Elliott, who accomplished his third 1,000-yard season in four years. The rush defense of the 49ers is the weakest part of their defensive unit, so Elliott may be a huge threat and a very valuable player in this matchup. In the air, Prescott likes to trust the ball to his number one receiver, Ceedee Lamb. Lamb is in his second NFL season and has significantly surpassed the 1,000-yard mark with a total of 1,102 receiving yards. Lamb gives his best performances under pressure against a tough competitor. The previous Oklahoma Sooner has the speed that can dust even the most disciplined corners. I suspect Lamb will be looked to as one of the top targets in this matchup for big throws downfield. This will be a battle between Lamb and the 49ers corner Jimmie Ward, and I bet Lamb’s going to win that match.

San Fransisco 49ers vs. Dallas Cowboys Daily Fantasy Picks
This matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys leaves a lot of room for big fantasy bets to pay off. Everyone will be fighting over Deebo Samuel or CeeDee Lamb, but Cedrick Wilson is the hidden gem. Wilson has stepped up into the starting wide receiver position after Michael Gallup tore his ACL in the game against the Arizona Cardinals. In his last performances, Wilson has shocked the nation. He has only played 1.5 full games but has caught three touchdown receptions and stacked up over 47 points. Dak Prescott has almost had an immediate connection with Wilson, and I suspect he will be one of the top targets in this matchup to break up targets to CeeDee Lamb.
