Saquon Barkley Fantasy Football Outlook & Value 2019

Saquon Barkley jumped to an elite fantasy play before even getting into the league. Barkley was no disappointment, even though the New York Giants have been. He is coming off a very strong rookie debut, and his rookie season has now jumped him to being a potential number one pick. Barkley’s only real negative is that the Giants overall offense might make it tougher on him, but you have to think the volume will get him to where he needs to be at the end of the year. The ceiling is endless for Barkley, but now he has the crazy high expectations that come with being a top fantasy back.

Saquon Barkley finished behind Todd Gurley as the top fantasy running back, as he was one with a ton of usage. Barkley saw 121 targets in his rookie season, catching 91 of them for 721 yards and four touchdowns. This helps when your current quarterback has trouble throwing the ball more than ten yards down field. Barkley was also a workhorse on the ground with over 250 attempts. 15 total touchdowns was among some of the best at the position. It was an excellent year for the rookie, and there is a lot more of this to come in the future. Barkley set the bar high for himself, but with this volume he should certainly be in this range again.

Jumping to the number one pick in the draft has a little to do with the Todd Gurley injury, but also Saquon Barkley’s usage and 2018 numbers. He was stellar, and while he should see more stacked boxes this season, his versatility gives him one of the safer floors in the league. Barkley is a sure bet for the number one pick, given he projects for a monster workload again. The production will be there on a weekly basis, which is something you want in a top overall pick. Barkley ranked second in targets on the giants, just four behind Odell Beckham Jr. I don’t have any reason to believe that he doesn’t see 100+ targets again, especially with OBJ gone and the Giants passing game in the form that they are in. It is an excellent spot for Barkley this year, seeing eight bottom half rushing defenses based off 2018 numbers. He will have some tough matchups in the division, but he did well last year.

Draft & Auction Value

I mean, Saquon Barkley is going one or two in your drafts, and is going to be the most expensive option in your fantasy drafts. It is hard to argue against that. If you drafting in the number one spot, you should feel comfortable with Barkley and also be excited to have him. We can go more in-depth about auction leagues where he is going to cost a significant amount of your cap. I don’t mind paying up for Barkley, but if I can find myself getting one of the other three backs around him for some sort of discount, that money can be used elsewhere. If the difference isn’t there, Barkley is worth the extra bucks to land him on your fantasy roster.
