Brad Peacock will get the nod for the Astros in tonight’s game. He’s 5-2 on the year with an ERA of 3.17. He’s posted an ERA of 2.70 at T-Mobile Park in 2019 thus far with 1 game pitched there on the year. He’s 5-1 in night games on the year with a WHIP of 0.899.
It’ll be Mike Leake for the M’s tonight, who’s 4-6 with an ERA of 4.61 on the year. The right-hander has recorded 51 strikeouts on the year. His last start against the Angels was amongst his best of the year, allowing just 2 runs and 5 hits for a Mariners victory.

Mariners Analysis
Currently the 6th worst team in baseball, the Mariners are looking to save face by potentially evening the series out with the Astros over the next two games. Their red-hot start to the year has continued to be shown as some sort of fluke, as their current record of 25-29 puts them in the bottom of the AL West.
None of the Mariners’ consistent starters have been hitting above .300 over the last seven games. Encarnacion has 6 hits in 23 at bats over his last six games, and Smith has 6 hits over his last 27 ABs. Concerning today’s matchup, Seager is hitting .389 in his career against Peacock. The rest of the M’s either haven’t faced him or haven’t put up good numbers against the right-hander.
Mike Leake is 6-7 against the Astros in his career through 16 games. In 87.1 innings pitched against the ‘Stros, he’s given up 89 hits and 41 runs, 38 earned. He struck out 2 and went 7 innings against the Angels in his last start, giving up just 2 runs and 5 hits for a Mariners’ victory.
Astros Starting Lineup
1. J. Mayfield , SS (R)
2. A. Bregman , 3B (R)
3. M. Brantley , LF (L)
4. Y. Gurriel , 1B (R)
5. T. White , DH (R)
6. J. Reddick , RF (L)
7. R. Chirinos , C (R)
8. T. Kemp , 2B (L)
9. J. Marisnick , CF (R)
Astros Analysis
The Astros continue to look great with an impressive 42-20 record. They’re 20-12 on the road this year, so having home-field advantage doesn’t really give the Mariners an edge in this one. In second place in the West are the Rangers who are currently 10 games behind the Astros.
In each of his last 5 starts, Peacock has allowed 2 runs or fewer. In those last 5, he’s 3-0 with an ERA of 0.93 with 35 Ks. It’s safe to say he’s looking exceptionally sharp going into tonight’s game. He hasn’t faced this Mariners lineup extensively, but Bechkahm is hitting .143 off of him and Haniger is hitting a mere .125.
The Astros bats have lit Leake up in the past. Brantley is hitting a smooth .429 off the right-hander, and Bregman is hitting .444. Robinson and Kemp have figured Leake out well, too, both hitting above .350 off him.
Mariners vs Astros Betting Odds
The line is currently set at Mariners +142 Astros -164 after opening at Mariners +130 Astros -150. The line movement is favoring the already-favored Astros, and I can’t in my right mind disagree with that assessment. The Astros have been too good lately where the Mariners have just, to put it plainly, been bad. Strange things happen in baseball, like a bad team beating a good one, but in gambling it’s better to bet what’s going to happen most times, and that’s going to be the Astros beating the Mariners with Leake on the mound.
