Seattle Seahawks vs. Green Bay Packers Matchup Preview (11/14/21)

The Seattle Seahawks without Russell Wilson were pretty much what you expected. The team went 1-2, beating the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars while losing to the Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints. Now, it’s looking like the Seattle QB is coming back this Sunday, and it couldn’t come at a better time. Seattle is 3-5 right now and well behind in the NFC West division race. A win over the Green Bay Packers would not only boost morale but potentially save their season.

The Green Bay Packers got a glimpse of life without Aaron Rodgers last week, and it wasn’t pretty. With Jordan Love under center, the team struggled in a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, despite being given numerous opportunities to win. Now, the team’s quarterback situation is a bit uncertain, as either Love or Rodgers could be under center in Lambeau this Sunday. One thing’s for certain: Green Bay will be hungry for a win after a 13-7 clunker of a loss last week. Here’s what you should expect when the Seahawks and Packers face off this Sunday.

Seattle Seahawks vs. Green Bay Packers Betting Odds

This isn’t some kind of hot take or anything, but I’m siding with the Packers whether Aaron Rodgers plays or not. Just hear me out. Even with Russel Wilson back in the lineup, his team is extremely weak on defense, and Green Bay head coach Matt LaFleur is going to take notice. If Jordan Love is at the helm and the run game is on point, the Packers could control the clock and escape with a win. If Rodgers does end up getting the start, he’ll be able to pick on the Seattle secondary with ease. Green Bay is much more competent on defense, and that’s going to make all the difference on Sunday.

The current three-point line is ideal in either situation. If Rodgers officially gets the start, I expect money to start immediately flow in on the Pack. Regardless, I’d feel comfortable laying the points with Green Bay at home at -3. I would, however, stay away from a point total bet until an announcement is made.

My predictions: Packers win 28-24, Packers -3, over 49 points

Seattle Seahawks Analysis

It’s always a bad choice to count out the Seattle Seahawks. The team has been one of the most consistent in the league, with their last losing season coming in 2011. This would be their first losing season with Russell Wilson if they don’t right the ship in the coming weeks. However, with the return of Russ, things are going to look much brighter in dreary Seattle for the second half of the season.

Wilson was playing at a high level before his finger injury, and a lot of that credit has to go to his talented receivers. D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett are a strong WR duo, combining for 1,159 yards and 11 TDs this season. The Hawks don’t get too much production from the rest of the receiving corps, so Lockett and Metcalf have to stay strong if Seattle wants to put points on the board.

Oh, how times have changed defensively in Seattle. The defense that led the team to a big Super Bowl win years ago is long gone, and the Seahawks are now allowing 401.5 yards per game. That’s good enough for 31st in the league, with only the putrid Washington Football Team behind them. The team’s not exactly putting on the pressure, either. Seattle only has 14 sacks on the year, a mark only better than two other teams. If adjustments aren’t made on defense, this team’s going to be watching the playoffs on TV this January.

Green Bay Packers Analysis

I’m as sick of hearing about the Aaron Rodgers drama as you are, but it’s relevant to this game. Whether or not he plays makes a pretty big difference, as we saw with Jordan Love’s listless debut last week. It’s looking like he’s more likely to play than not, but a concrete update would be helpful when trying to wager on this game. The QB was playing at an MVP level once again before missing last Sunday, and I don’t expect him to miss a beat against the Seahawks.

If he doesn’t play, the Packers need to feed the ball to their talented running backs Aaron Jones and A.J. Dillon. While they did a decent job of utilizing both backs against the Chiefs, I feel like they could’ve pulled away with a win if they committed to pounding the rock all Sunday long. Whatever the situation at QB, the Pack have an opportunity to rip it up with the running game, as they’re facing a defense that’s allowing 127.6 run yards per game.

With all the focus on the Green Bay offense, no one gives credit to the defense. The Packers are fielding a top-5 defense right now that’s allowing just 321.2 yards per game. The team forced the Chiefs offense to stall on numerous drives last Sunday, and I don’t expect a recovering Russel Wilson to come back and air it out with ease. Defense wins championships, and this squad compared with the talented offense could mean another deep postseason run for Green Bay.

Seattle Seahawks vs. Green Bay Packers Daily Fantasy Picks

Green Bay has two talented running backs in Aaron Jones and A.J. Dillon, but there’s one clear option here. Aaron Jones is listed at $6,900 on DraftKings while Dillon is only $4,800. Either is a good option, especially if Love starts, but I’m rolling with Dillon here. He had 90 total yards from scrimmage with Love under center, and I expect more against the swiss cheese defense of the Seattle Seahawks.
