Phoenix Suns vs. Los Angeles Clippers Player Prop Picks
The two Phoenix Suns vs. Los Angeles Clippers player props are Kevin Durant to score 24 or more points against the Clippers at -130 odds and Kawhi Leonard to record two or more steals at +110 odds.
Kevin Durant Over 23.5 Points (-130)
Kevin Durant returned from a three-game absence due to a minor hamstring injury in last night’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies, and it appears as if he will play again tonight on the second night of a back-to-back.
Durant was even assigned a probable designation, which is usually a good sign of his overall availability regarding minutes. The biggest concern with this bet was whether or not KD would log close to his season average in minutes (37), considering he played 36 minutes last night, but that concern has dissipated.
On the season, Kevin Durant has averaged just shy of 30 points per game on shooting efficiency, which makes absolutely no sense to the average human; he is hitting 52.3% of his field goal attempts and 47.3% of his three-point attempts. Outrageous.
In last night’s game, Durant scored 23 points on 23 field goal attempts, promising volume for one of the best scorers ever. Even though he fell just short of this line, the Los Angeles Clippers’ defense has been mediocre recently, boasting a team defensive rating of 116.2 at home during their surge.
Durant should have plenty of clean looks against an exploitable Clippers defense that has allowed the third-highest field goal percentage between 15 and 19 feet during the 2023-24 campaign. The mid-range is Durant’s sweet spot.
Further, he has hit the Over on this line in four of his past seven games overall and in eight of his past nine against the Clippers. This game should be a shootout with little defense, which favors the Overs on points props for players like KD.
Kawhi Leonard Over 1.5 Steals (+110)
It might seem contradictory to say that the Clippers won’t be playing much defense in the section above and then immediately list an Over on a Clippers player’s defense prop as another one of our favorite bets for the game. However, we are talking about Kawhi Leonard.
Leonard has recorded at least two steals in three of his past four games, using his humongous hands and ridiculously long wingspan to deflect passes and strip ball handlers. And we believe he will continue that streak here.
For one, the Phoenix Suns have been turnover-prone all season long, averaging close to 15 turnovers per game; however, that number inflates to 16.3 on the road, which is the second-highest number in the NBA behind only Utah.
Further, the Suns allow the third-most steals to opposing small forwards and power forwards, giving Leonard an advantageous matchup all night long. If Leonard guards Durant for most of the game, he should be able to log a steal just from the sheer usage KD has every game. Few players are better on-ball defenders than Kawhi.
