Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Denver Broncos Matchup Preview (9/27/20): Betting Odds, Depth Charts, Live Stream (Watch Online)

Tampa Bay is coming off its first win in the Tom Brady era. The offense wasn’t quite as smooth but a couple of big running plays and Mike Evans carried them on the offensive side. Tampa’s defense looks vastly improved as they were able to slow down a good Panthers defense. As for Denver, they are coming off back-to-back tough losses. Drew Lock is out for the next few weeks and Courtland Sutton is done for the year. This is in addition to Von Miller who is also missing the season already. 2020 continues to hit teams hard for injuries. This is an interesting game because the Buccaneers are touchdown favorites but Jeff Driskel was able to move the ball against a tough Steelers defense after coming in. There are certainly worse backups but the Broncos should still be competitive. For odds movement and full matchup history, visit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Denver Broncos Matchup Page.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Analysis

Tampa Bay BuccaneersTampa Bay put up 31 points in the Week 2 win over the Panthers and you might hear some grumblings still about Tom Brady and the passing game. There was another interception and he threw for just 217 yards. It was Leonard Fournette who had the breakout game with 103 yards on 12 carries and also scored two touchdowns. Ronald Jones had just 23 yards and a touchdown as there might be a changing of the guard. There are three backs getting work though, as LeSean McCoy had seven targets in the passing game. Jones is still listed as the starter, but I am not sure how much longer that is going to last with Fournette playing well and simply just a better back in my eyes. Playing Carolina is different from their upcoming matchup with Denver, who rank 11th in DVOA against the run through two weeks. But even going back to last season this was a team that limited a lot of opposing running backs on the ground.

Defensively the Buccaneers have been on the rise. The run defense ranked inside the top five last season and was punishing running backs. That has been the case for two weeks as well. Even with Alvin Kamara having a multi-touchdown game it was not an easy game for him. Now the pass defense is what hurt them over the last few years but they rank 7th in DVOA through two weeks and have played strong passing games with Carolina and New Orleans. The offseason pickups and draft picks have been a big hit so far.

Denver Broncos Analysis

Denver BroncosDenver was hit hard by the injury bug last week losing Drew Lock for the next few weeks and then Courtland Sutton for the season. The Sutton injury is going to hurt a lot especially given they have lost Phillip Lindsay too as a compliment to the offense, but Sutton was the WR1 on the team. Jerry Jeudy and KJ Hamler will get a bump in targets as the receivers, and Tim Patrick will jump into a stronger role as well. These will be the three wideouts out there with DaeSean Hamilton as a depth option. Noah Fant has gotten off to a strong start this season and I expect him to be relied upon a lot as well by whoever is under center moving forward. At least for Week 3, it will be Jeff Driskel but they did just sign Blake Bortles. We have seen Driskel in a limited fashion as a backup but there are certainly worse options out there.

With Philip Lindsay out, Melvin Gordon handled a lot of the workload against Pittsburgh. He had a good day despite facing one of the top defenses in the league. Gordon handled the ball 19 times on the ground and also had three targets. He finished the day with 84 total yards and a score. Gordon will have to go against another top run defense. While the injuries are there I wouldn’t rule this team out in terms of at least being competitive. Denver has looked good on the defensive side and that has even been with a limited pass rush. The cornerbacks will have their hands full with Chris Godwin and Mike Evans fully healthy. Godwin has yet to flash what he did last season but we know it is coming.

Public money is heavily on Tampa Bay as they are the healthier team coming into Denver. The Broncos will have a tough time dealing with the injuries and a backup quarterback is always going to create a draw to the opposing team. Jeff Driskel is going to start and losing Courtland Sutton is a big blow for the offense. Now Denver was able to keep it close against the Steelers and had a close game against Tennessee. Denver covering here wouldn’t be a surprise even with Tampa finding some better form in Week 2. People like the over here and I don’t mind that bet this week. Tampa has had a heavy over record, but that was under Jameis Winston and with a poorer defense. I still believe Denver will be able to put up a few strong scoring drives with Driskel under center.

Daily Fantasy Picks

Noah FantThis game is in the afternoon and it is smashed in between a lot of high scoring affairs that will keep the ownership down. Chris Godwin is back and both he and Mike Evans are strong tournament plays because there is a growing view that Tom Brady also doesn’t have the capability to put up big numbers. The Broncos secondary is also still decent. However, they have allowed 197 receiving yards to opposing wide receivers so far this season. The backfield is a bit tricky with Ronald Jones and Leonard Fournette cutting into each other’s workload. While both scored last week it was a different defense.

Denver has a few passing options to work with as KJ Hamler is a cheap option and a better threat on DraftKings with the PPR scoring. Jerry Jeudy will now see a lot of targets as will Noah Fant. The second-year rookie out of Iowa is off to a hot start and I like quite a bit in this spot as the price is on the rise but not too high just yet. The Buccaneers defense is improved in the secondary so I will tread lightly but still keep this names in mind when building lineups.
