Toledo vs San Diego State Odds, Picks, Predictions (9/24/22)

The Toledo Rockets visit the San Diego State Aztecs this weekend after they struggled a lot against Ohio State last weekend. The Aztecs also struggled last weekend and were beat soundly against Utah. This should be an interesting matchup. Let’s take a look at the odds and make some picks and predictions for this game!

Toledo vs. San Diego State Odds

Toledo is a 3-point favorite on the road in San Diego against the Aztecs and sit at -155 on the money line. the over/under is at 45.5 too. Toledo being favored here might jump out to some, but it’s not surprising considering how San Diego State has looked against the two FBS teams they’ve played. The total does make sense here because San Diego State’s defense can be very good and also Toledo didn’t look good on offense in their last game against an FBS opponent. The odds here make a lot of sense, but keep an eye on if the line starts shifting to San Diego State being favored.

Toledo vs. San Diego State Prediction & Pick

This pick is an indictment on how the Aztecs have looked so far this year. Their offense has not looked that good so far this year especially. They managed just over 230 yards on offense against Arizona, and just barely over 60 passing yards and then also had just over 173 yards and 60 passing yards too against Utah. The passing game just hasn’t been there in these two games against FBS opponents, and I don’t know how much more it can improve in this game, especially before conference play starts up for them too. The defense has been solid, but they can only do so much with how inept the offense has looked so far. Toledo has played decently well, but just ran into a buzzsaw last week against Ohio State, so some of their stats are skewed because of that.

Toledo has a do-it-all quarterback in Dequan Finn, who will cause issues for San Diego State’s defense across the board. Toledo’s defense has been decent, aside from the game against Ohio State, they’ve good enough. Toledo seems like it just has more ways it can beat a team, in this matchup too. Be smart with this, and pick the more competent offense too. Defense can’t do much if the offense can’t score and help the defense out more.

Dequan Green vs the San Diego State Defense

Dequan Green has done everything for Toledo this year so far at quarterback. He is the leading passer and rusher on the team, and has done it all for the Rockets.

He has thrown for over 540 yards and has five touchdowns to two interceptions. He also has a 59% completion percentage so far this year too. he then has over 200 rushing yards too on the year as well. He threw for over 170 yards and had one touchdown pass, while also having over 70 yards rushing and two more touchdowns on the ground against UMass, which was their first game against an FBS opponent.

He actually played well against Ohio State too with over 150 yards passing and two touchdowns through the air and then also ran for 70 yards and had one touchdown. The Aztec defense is going to have its hands full here. They have talent on defense, but haven’t been able to show it that well due to the other side of the ball just being very bad so far.

There’s not much different on their defense this year as compared to last year, in terms of personnel, so this defense could still keep the Aztecs in games. What Green does through the air and on the ground will most likely determine the outcome of the game.
