The UK is home to some of the top female footballers who look good on and off the pitch.
1. Steph Houghton
Steph Houghton is one of the more well known English football players as she began her senior playing days way back in 2002 when she joined Sunderland. Houghton has moved onto play with Leeds United, Arsenal, and now Man City. After winning the FA Young Player of the Year Award back in 2006-07, she took off. Leeds United won a Premier League Cup in 2010 while Houghton was on the roster. Houghton’s international career took off in 2007, and she has over 120 appearances and 15+ goals for the national team. Born in Durham, England, Houghton it is no surprise to see Sunderland be the starting point of her career. She is married to former Bolton Wanderers defender, Stephen Darby.
2. Alex Greenwood
The 26-year-old left-back from Liverpool, England, has played professional football since 2010. Alex Greenwood has played since 2010, with her youth team Everton being the starting point. She has also played for Liverpool, Manchester United, and now plays with Olympique Lyonnais. Greenwood made her national team debut in 2014 after working her way up the youth ranks. Greenwood is in the prime of her career and has begun to extend her career outside of the UK. She attended Savio Salesian College and is currently dating Jack O’Connell of Sheffield United.

Toni Duggan is another star who was born in Liverpool. Duggan went to Notre Dame Catholic College and then would graduate from Loughborough College in 2010. She is one of the top goal scorers in the sport currently as she plays with Atletico Madrid. Duggan has spent most of her time over in Spain, playing with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid over the last few seasons. Before she was with Everton and Manchester City. Duggan scored 20 goals during her stint with Barcelona and had over 35 during her seasons with City and Everton. Joining the national team at a young age, Duggan has over 20 goals for the country.
4. Rachel Daly
Rachel Daly played over in the United States with St. John’s. She was born in Harrogate, England where she began playing youth club football. She scored 50 goals in 60 appearances during her college career. Since then, she has played with the Houston Dash in the NWSL league. Daly joined the team in 2016, where she has over 20 goals. Before she was playing with the Los Angeles Strikers and various southern California minor league teams. In 2016, Daly debuted for England and had over 25 appearances and a couple of goals to go with it.

Alex Scott was born in London England and fell right into the hands of Arsenal’s youth program from 1992-1999. She just recently retired and is now a reporter with Sky Sports. Scott was a longtime right-back for Arsenal as she played from 2005-2009 and then 2012-2018. Scott has made over 200 appearances in her professional career. She made 140 appearances for England and played from 2004-2017. Scott went over to play in the United States as she played with the Chicago Red Stars and the Boston Breakers. Scott started the Alex Scott Academy in 2011 which is in partnership with Kinston College and Puma to support female footballers.
6. Leah Williamson

After joining Arsenal’s youth club in 2006, she got her first call up in 2014 and has made over 70 appearances. Leah Williamson has played both defensive midfield and defense. She made her national team debut in 2018 and has played in 15 games already. In her early 20s, Williamson has a bright future for club and country. Williamson grew up in Milton Keynes and was very close to the stadium. She attended Ousedale School for her secondary education. Coming from an Arsenal family at home, they were excited to see her career move in this direction.

Eniola Aluko was born in Nigeria but moved to England in just six months. Aluko played with the Birmingham City Ladies team before joining their senior team for a few years. It was Chelsea where her career took off as she scored 15 goals in 28 appearances. After a stint in the United States, she returned to Chelsea to score 32 goals in 73 appearances. Juventus was where she finished her club career by scoring 15 goals in 27 appearances. She played in 102 games for the English National Team and scored 33 goals. Aluko is now the director of football at Aston Villa.
8. Millie Bright
Millie Bright is one of the top defenders in Europe currently, as she plays with Chelsea and is a first-team English National. She has made over 60 appearances with Chelsea and has been with them since 2015. Her English team appearances began shortly after, as he has made over 30 since 2016. Bright was won two FA Women’s Cups with Chelsea and was also England Young Player of the Year in 2016.

She has over 30 goals in 54 appearances for the club, and it all started back at Reading, where she notched 68 goals in 42 appearances. Kirby joined reading at a young age and also played with the England U23 team for a few games. She has over 40 appearances with the national team and has over ten goals. Kirby just recently received an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Winchester as she works in supporting mental health and wellbeing.
10. Jordan Knobbs
Jordan Knobbs began her professional career at the age of 16 after joining Sunderland in 2000 at the age of eight. She played just 29 games for Sunderland before joining Arsenal and has been with the club since 2010. Knobb is a midfielder who has scored over 60 goals in 200+ appearances for Arsenal. She joined the England National Team in 2013, where she has over 50 appearances since then.
