Top 5 Wide Receiver Fantasy Busts for Week 14: Tyreek Hill to Bust Against the Patriots

One of, if not, the most important week for fantasy football has come for those who have made their playoffs. The first week of the fantasy playoffs is what we have all been playing for. As we have seen in the past few weeks, the weather has started to become a factor in games like in the Cowboys vs Patriots game in week 12 where both teams dealt with awful weather conditions that contributed to Amari Cooper’s 0 catch game. As we wind down the end of the NFL regular season, the weather will only get worse. All statistics used in this article can be found on our website at https://www.lineups.com/nfl.

Emmanuel Sanders (SF vs NO)

Emmanuel SandersSanders has faltered in recent weeks, failing to score more than 6.1 fantasy points in the past 4 weeks. Possibly due to a nagging rib injury Sanders suffered in week 10. Sanders has not missed a game but has been limited in his snaps. Working his way up from 30% in week 10 to 98% in week 13. However, this increase in snap counts has not improved Sanders’ fantasy performances. Playing in New Orleans this week against a solid defensive secondary. Sanders will likely be facing shadow coverage from Marshon Lattimore who has been one of the best corners in the NFL since entering the league a few years ago. The Saints have allowed the 17th fewest passing yards, 10.0 yards per completion (9th best), and just 6.2 yards per attempt (6th best). However, the Saints have allowed the 19th most passing touchdowns this season which could end up saving Sanders’ week. But traveling across the country and playing in a hostile environment against a good Saints defense makes Emmanuel Sanders a wide receiver bust this week.

Tyreek Hill (KC vs NE)

Tyreek HillThe Kansas City Chiefs star wide receiver has had 2 disappointing games in a row after catching 0 of 2 targets against the Los Angeles Chargers in week 11 and 5 of 8 targets for 55 yards against the Oakland Raiders. Hill will face the New England Patriots and their historic defense. Likely to be shadowed by star cornerback Stephon Gilmore who has been one of the best shut down corners in the league. Tyreek Hill has been touchdown dependent this year. Failing to score more than 11.1 fantasy points this season without scoring a touchdown. The Patriots defense has allowed the fewest touchdowns this season with 8 passing touchdowns this season. Also allowing the second fewest passing yards, 9.0 yards per completion (3rd fewest), and just 5.0 yards per attempt (2nd lowest). Facing one of the best shutdown corners in the league along with one of the best overall defenses in the league. Weather could also play a factor in this game at New England, one of the toughest places to play this late in the season. These factors make Tyreek Hill a fantasy bust against the New England Patriots.

Amari Cooper (DAL vs CHI)

amari cooperCooper had somewhat of a bounce back performance in week 13 in their loss facing the Buffalo Bills after his 0 catch game against the New England Patriots. Something that not many people have been talking about is Cooper’s struggle in away games. In the past 3 away games that Cooper has played he has averaged just 7.1 fantasy points. Facing a tough matchup against the Chicago Bears in week 14. The Bears have been a top 10 defense this season. Allowing the 9th fewest passing yards, 5th fewest passing touchdowns (13), 9.4 yards per completion (4th lowest), and just 6.1 yards per attempt (4th lowest). A tough matchup against one of the league’s best secondaries at a hostile stadium makes Amari Cooper a bust in week 14.

Kenny Golladay (DET vs MIN)

Golladay, who has been a fantasy darling this season considering his draft position, just came off another impressive performance against the Chicago Bears. Catching 4 of his 5 targets for 158 yards and a touchdown. Golladay hasn’t seen more than 5 targets since week 10 this season. With Matthew Stafford unlikely to return any time soon, Golladay’s target share won’t be changing much. The Lions offense has been one-dimensional since the loss of Kerryon Johnson earlier this season. A pass happy offense led by an undrafted free agent rookie with little to no run game to support him does not sound like a recipe for success this season. Young QB’s do not like to throw the ball downfield or are just not good at it. Danny Amendola, the lions reliable underneath receiver, was David Blough’s second favorite target in week 13 behind T.J. Hockenson. Golladay was 4th overall in targets in week 13, Golladay was extremely effective when he was used, but his lack of usage with a young quarterback brings a lot of concern with it. Concerns about his rookie quarterback and lack of use in the offense is why Kenny Golladay is a wide receiver bust this week against the Minnesota Vikings.

Dede Westbrook (JAX vs LAC)

dede westbrookDede Westbrook has strung himself a few solid weeks in a row now. Scoring double-digit fantasy points over the past 2 weeks. The return of Nick Foles helped Westbrook’s target share. However after the benching of Foles in week 13, Gardner Minshew has returned to the lineup. While Minshew was in the lineup earlier this season, Westbrook averaged just under 7.0 fantasy points per game in 0.5 PPR formats. This lack of fantasy production with Gardner Minshew is very concerning for those who were buying into Westbrook’s recent fantasy success with Foles. The Jaguar’s receiver will face the Los Angeles Chargers in week 14. The Chargers have allowed the 4th fewest passing yards, 13th fewest passing touchdowns, and just 9.9 yards per completion (7th lowest). These factors make Dede Westbrook a fantasy bust in week 14.
