Toronto Blue Jays Vs. Nestor Cortes (L)

Toronto’s offense is the strength of the club, they have some talented young hitters, who’ll be terrorizing American League pitching staffs for many years to come.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is in my eyes the most talented young hitter in the Major Leagues.  He’s capable of simply doing anything he wants at the plate; many experts have chosen him to win the American League MVP award in 2022.  In 2021, the 23-year-old, led the American League in home runs with 48 while hitting .311.  But Guerrero Jr. also led the American League in the following categories runs scored (123), OBP (.401), slugging percentage (.601), OPS (1.002), OPS+ (167) and total bases (363).  In 11 at-bats this season has a home run with four runs batted in and an OPS of 1.227.

Bo Bichette another one of the fantastic young Blue Jay hitters led the American League in hits in 2021 with 191.  Additionally, the 2021 All-Star batted .298 with 29 big flies, 102 runs batted, 310 total bases with an OPS of .828.  In five at-bats against Nestor Cortes in 2021 he had three hits including a home run.

Toronto acquired Matt Chapman from Oakland during spring training to man the “hot corner,” slammed 27 home runs, drove in 72 runs, accumulated 213 total bases with an OPS of .716.  Last year, Chapman had one hit and six at-bats last year against Nestor Cortes.  Veteran George Springer entering his second year as a Blue Jay, hit .264 with 22 home runs and 50 runs batted in.  The former Houston Astro has four hits in 13 at-bats this season with an OPS of 1.015.

Nestor Cortes is scheduled to pitch on Tuesday against the Blue Jays on Tuesday.  He has yet to appear in a game in 2022.  Last season he was 2-3 for the Yankees with a 2.90 ERA in 93 innings.

New York Yankees Vs. Yusei Kikuchi (L)

The Yankees feature two of the most imposing hitters in the American League in their lineup, Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton.  In the 2021 season, Aaron Judge played in 148 games, belting 39 home runs, driving in 98 runs, slugging .544 with an OPS of .916.  In seven at-bats against Yusei Kikuchi, Judge slugged two home runs, driving in four runs with an OPS of 1.587.  Giancarlo Stanton hit .273, slamming 35 home runs and driving in 97 runs in 2021.  In his 12th year the slugger had a .516 slugging percentage and an OPS of .870 in 139 games.  In 13 at-bats this season, the Yankees number 27, has belted two home runs along with driving in four runs.   Stanton had one hit in four at-bats against Kikuchi last year.

DJ LeMahieu has been a revelation for the Yankees since coming over to the club in 2019.  In three seasons in New York, he has won a batting title (2020), slugged .461, while knocking in 187 runs.  In nine at-bats last season against Kikuchi, LeMahieu had three hits, three bases on balls and an OPS of .833.  Left-handed first baseman, Anthony Rizzo who was acquired at last year’s trade deadline, re-signed with the Yankees in the off-season.  In 49 games as a Yankee, the long-time Chicago Cub hit .249 with eight home runs and 21 runs batted in.  Rizzo did not have an at-bat against Yusei Kikuchi last year.  As a Minnesota Twin last season, Josh Donaldson hit .247 with 26 home runs and 72 runs batted in.  Additionally, the 2015 America League MVP had 217 total bases, .475 slugging percentage and an OPS of .827 in 2021.  Donaldson did not have an at-bat against Yusei Kikuchi last year.

Yusei Kikuchi started 29 games last season for the Seattle Mariners, going 7-9 with an ERA of 4.41.  In 157 innings in 2021, he struck out 163 batters and allowed 77 earned runs.  He started two games agains the Yankees, going 0-1 with an ERA of 4.50.

Toronto Blue Jays Vs. New York Yankees Picks & Prediction

Blue Jays are 20-8 in their last 28 vs. American League East.  Toronto is 12-5 in their last 17 road games.  Under is 6-0 in the Blue Jays last six road games vs. a right-handed starter.  Toronto is 4-0 in the last four meetings in New York against the Yankees.  New York is 2-5 in the last seven meetings with Toronto.  The Yankees are 9-4 in their last 13 games on grass.  New York is 54-25 in their last 79 Tuesday games.  The Yankees are 41-19 in their last 60 during game two of a series.  New York is 1-4 in their last five home games vs. a left-handed starter.  I like the road team Blue Jays in this game to win by more than 1.5 runs with the clubs scoring over 10 runs combined in the game.
