While one hope for football in the United States has always been to grow the MLS to have a bigger presence in the sporting world, it’s thrilling to see so many names of big European clubs alongside the names of our players. By now all American fans of the sport are familiar with Christian Pulisic, of Dortmund and Chelsea fame, but there’s a handful of other interesting players to follow in this lineup. I’m a huge fan of Weston McKennie’s game; he may not be healthy for the whole tournament, but when he’s on the pitch his box-to-box play style is both fun to watch and incredibly beneficial to his team.
It’ll also be fun to see what Gio Reyna and Sergiño Dest, another pair of Europe-tested youngsters, are able to create up and down the right side when both are on the pitch. That being said, Leeds United’s Brenden Aaronson figures to get some time in Reyna’s spot as well. There’s a few more potentially impactful players not listed in this starting 11, such as the veteran defender DeAndre Yedlin, who I’m sure will see the pitch in some capacity this tournament.
Tim Ream is another interesting defender, who doesn’t perfectly fit our play style, but his contributions to Fulham’s solid start to their prem return are undeniable, and his class would be a huge boost to the team. Lastly, providing a potential spark in attack could be Lille’s Tim Weah, son of former Ballon D’Or winner George Weah. It’s a fun lineup, and hopefully one that will bring newfound success to the American side.

United States Starting 11 FAQ
Who Is USA’s Starting Goalkeeper?
It’s stunning that this is still as much of a question as it is with the tournament this close, but the stunning exclusion of Zack Steffen has cast it into doubt. That being said, I would expect Arsenal’s Matt Turner to have the job.
Who Is USA’s Starting Striker?
FC Dallas star Jesus Ferreira, one of the crown jewels of the MLS, is expected to start up top for the USMNT from the beginning of this World Cup.
Who Is USA’s Best Player?
Many might say it’s Christian Pulisic, the high-profile Chelsea winger; for me, it’s Weston McKennie, a midfielder who exerts much more influence on the game when he’s at his best.
