Utah Jazz at Los Angeles Clippers Preview
In a Western Conference showcase tonight, the Los Angeles Clippers look to start a winning streak as they are on the road against the Utah Jazz. This will be the second of the regular-season series between the Jazz and the Clippers, as Los Angeles took home the first win in Utah on November 3rd 105-94. Kawhi Leonard led the way for the Clippers with 30 points, and Donovan Mitchell had 36 for the Jazz.
The Clippers are 23-10 on the season and are currently third in the Western Conference. They won their last game, are 7-3 in their last 10 and have a 14-2 record inside of Staples Center. The Jazz are currently 19-12 on the season, which puts them in sixth place. If the playoffs started today, they would be paired up with the Clippers. Utah won their last game, are 7-3 in their last 10, but are just 7-9 on the road this season.

Utah Jazz Starting Lineup
The Jazz got their post-Christmas schedule kicked off to a great start on Thursday night via a 121-115 win over the Portland Trail Blazers. Donovan Mitchell and Joe Ingles had good performances, but Rody Gobert made a few clutch plays down the stretch to seal the win for the Jazz as the Blazers tried to rally back in the fourth.
“Those two hustle plays by Rudy sealed the game,” said guard Donovan Mitchell. “You can say what you want about my scoring or Joe, but at the end of the day, it came down to Rudy making two good plays. That’s why he is who he is, that’s why we rely on him.”
Gobert finished with 16 points and 15 rebounds in the game, but the Jazz were led by Mitchell’s 35 points and seven assists. Ingles, who was recently inserted into the starting lineup with Mike Conley out, chipped in 26 points, and Bojan Boganovic added 16 points.
In Jordan Clarkson’s Jazz debut, the guard scored nine points in 21 minutes.
LA Clippers Starting Lineup
The Los Angeles Clippers were the story of Christmas Day as they proved they may just be the number one team in Los Angeles with a 111-106 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers.
“We just held our poise,” said Beverley, who finished with eight points and nine rebounds. “We understand we’re playing a phenomenal team in the Lakers, No. 1, No. 2 team in the NBA. We know we’re playing a good team. They’re not just going to roll over and let us win, especially at home. We kept our composure, we came out in the second half with a lot of energy.”
Kawhi Leonard had a huge game with 35 points and 12 rebounds. Paul George added 17 points, Ivica Zubac had 11 and Montrezl Harrell came off the bench for 18 points.
Key Player Matchups
Donovan Mitchell vs. Paul George
While some of these matchups pit players at different positions, this is how I expect the defensive matchups to play out. Mitchell is coming off a huge game and will be a big target for the Clippers’ stingy defense. George is long and athletic enough to defend him and get his own at the other end, but I expect Mitchell to have a slight advantage.
Kawhi Leonard vs. Joe Ingles
Joe Ingles has played very well since returning to the starting lineup, but the Jazz will need lots of ball movement to get him going in space, otherwise he is in for a tough night with one of the league’s top perimeter defenders on him – and we all know what Kawhi Leonard is capable of on offense.
Donovan Mitchell and Kawhi Leonard are fantasy standouts for tonight’s game.
Joe Ingles and Montrezl Harrell provide solid depth and value to round out a lineup.
