Utah Jazz vs. Golden State Warriors Matchup Preview (4/2/22)

Golden State will look to break its four-game losing streak when it hosts the Utah Jazz on Saturday night. The Warriors started the 2021-22 season red hot with a 41-13 record but have since lost 16 of their last 23 games. The Warriors’ collapse has caused them to drop from second place in the Western Conference to fourth place; if they lose this game against the Utah Jazz, they could drop to fifth! It won’t get any easier for them as Steph Curry has been ruled out for the rest of the regular season.

Utah was lucky enough to break its losing streak of five games with a win against the Los Angeles Lakers, who were without LeBron James and Anthony Davis once again. The Jazz have had the highest offensive rating in the NBA all season long, but it will take more than that to overcome a team like the Golden State Warriors, both in this game and in a potential playoff matchup. I further analyze this game under the betting odds section and elaborate on which team I believe will pull through in the end!

Utah Jazz vs. Golden State Warriors Betting Odds

Utah is a miserable team against the spread and has been even worse on the road recently. Those facts alone will pull me away from betting on it in this matchup. It concerns me how sporadic the Jazz are and their late-game collapse against the Los Angeles Clippers proves to me that they struggle to hold off inferior teams on the road. Jordan Poole, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green should be able to grab a win at home against the Jazz, but it should definitely be a close game until the end. I’ll take the Golden State Warriors against the spread and Moneyline, even though they have burned me time and time again this season.

Utah Jazz Starting Lineup

PG: Mike Conley Jr.
SG: Donovan Mitchell
SF: Royce O’Neale
PF: Bojan Bogdanovic
C: Rudy Gobert

Utah Jazz Analysis

The Utah Jazz finally broke their five-game losing streak with a home win against the Los Angeles Lakers. Utah has been one of the most inconsistent teams this season, regardless of playoff standing. It had one of the worst streaks of any playoff team, dropping 11 of 13 games in January. Still, this Jazz team is incredibly dangerous, especially on the offensive end, where it ranks first in offensive rating this season. If you were to discard the games where Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell were out injured, their rating would be through the roof. The issue with Utah has been being consistent all season long, and the only way it can fix that, as far as the win column is concerned, is by ratcheting up its effort on the defensive end every single night. It has yet to do that.

Golden State Warriors Starting Lineup

PG: Jordan Poole
SG: Klay Thompson
SF: Andrew Wiggins
PF: Draymond Green
C: Kevon Looney

Golden State Warriors Analysis

It has been a “tale of two seasons” for the Golden State Warriors. They were tremendous at the beginning, led by then MVP-favorite Steph Curry, and appeared to be a shoo-in for another Western Conference Finals appearance, at the bare minimum. Klay Thompson’s return was highly anticipated by the Warriors, their fans, and NBA fans alike; however, the trio of Steph Curry, Thompson, and Draymond Green did not last long on the court. Green was injured shortly after Thompson’s return and proceeded to miss over two months of action, further muddying the chemistry in the Warriors’ offense. Their struggle was evident, and believers in the Warriors doubled down on the importance of Draymond Green, but when Green returned a few weeks ago, very little changed. Now, Steph Curry is out with an ankle injury after an unfortunate loose ball play, and he is not expected to return for the regular season. I believe there is optimism around his availability for the playoffs, but it may not be enough as poorly as Golden State has been playing, with and without him.

Utah Jazz vs. Golden State Warriors Daily Fantasy Picks

This year, Rudy Gobert has had arguably his best offensive season, posting 15.4 points per game on 71.2% shooting. In addition, Gobert has pulled down a career-high 14.6 rebounds, which is over one rebound more than his next closest season. Gobert’s blocks per game have gone down from last season, but he is still one of the premier defenders in the NBA and can go off for four or five blocks in any given game! This is not necessarily the best matchup for Gobert as Kevon Looney has proven to be a solid defensive big man for the Warriors; however, Gobert is coming off a massive game against the Lakers where he scored 25 points and pulled down 17 rebounds on 9-for-11 from the floor! If Gobert has another night like this, he will be well worth a high salary in DFS, and the Warriors’ defense has been average since the All-Star break.

There is no player on the Golden State Warriors who I could recommend more in DFS than Jordan Poole. Poole has had a strong 2021-22 outing, but his most recent stretch of games has proven he has All-Star potential in the future! He averaged 27 points, five assists, and four rebounds in his past 13 games on a 48/45/89 shooting split! This is an ideal matchup for Poole as the Jazz are below-average against opposing shooting guards, and he has been on fire. Additionally, Andrew Wiggins has not played too well on the offensive end, so he has taken a backseat to Poole. I would be shocked if Poole did not put together a 30-point game in this matchup, especially since Steph Curry is still out.
