Wake Forest Position Groups

Like many collegiate teams that lack traditional size, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons often utilize three-guard lineups featuring a trio of Kevin Miller, Cameron Hildreth, and Hunter Sallis. Sallis, the Gonzaga transfer, leads the team in scoring and can defend most small forwards without much issue, so Wake Forest’s decision to play smaller has oftentimes paid off this season.

Wake Forest Point Guards

Kevin Miller is the starting point guard for the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. Miller logs roughly 32 minutes per game, so it is clear that they want to lean on him as much as they can. Guard depth had been an issue at times for Wake Forest this season; however, former Marist guard Jao Ituka has finally been cleared to play, so don’t be surprised if he starts to get some minutes behind Miller.

Wake Forest Shooting Guards

The shooting guard position is the deepest position for an otherwise top-heavy Wake Forest squad. Cameron Hildreth starts at the two for the Demon Deacons, averaging the third-most points of any player on the team. In the absence of Damari Monsanto (who just returned from injury), Wake Forest has leaned on Parker Friedrichsen for minutes off the bench at the shooting guard position.

Wake Forest Small Forwards

Hunter Sallis, the top dog for this Wake Forest squad, starts at small forward. Sallis averages the most points of any player on the team and logs an average of 35 minutes per game, demonstrating his importance. Senior guard Damari Monsanto just returned from an injury and has been giving Wake Forest some shooting and extended minutes off the bench. Monsanto will be deployed mostly at the two but could relieve Sallis occasionally at the three, too.

Wake Forest Power Forwards

Andrew Carr is the starting power forward for the Demon Deacons. Carr has averaged roughly 14 points and seven rebounds per game on close to 33 minutes per game. A team that struggles with frontcourt depth, Wake Forest will choose to put freshman forward Marqus Marion in the game for limited minutes if Carr gets into foul trouble., but the Demon Deacons clearly prefer to stick to their top-heavy rotation when possible.

Wake Forest Centers

Efton Reid starts at the center position for Wake Forest, averaging just shy of nine points and nine rebounds per game for a guard-heavy team. Reid helps the Demon Deacons match up physically with bigger and taller teams so they don’t get crushed too hard on the glass and in the paint. Zach Keller and Matthew Marsh have split time backing up Reid, but like most other positions on the floor, Wake Forest would prefer to stick with its starters.
