Washington Football Team Analysis

Washington had a tough matchup against the Cardinals last week and failed to contain Kyler Murray going down 20-0 at halftime and never really recovering. However, there were promising signs on both sides of the ball and all-in-all the team has outperformed expectations two games into the season. Haskins has surely improved compared to his ending of 2019, and the defense is getting better.

Starting with Haskins he played two efficient games and both without an interception. So far he has leaned heavily on Terry McLaurin and his TE Logan Thomas. However, I think that he is doing what the coaching staff asks of him and he simply has not been making many mistakes. One thing that I am sure the coaching staff will ask of Haskins is to get the ball into the hands of Antonio Gibson and JD McKissic more out of the backfield to allow them to make plays.

Both Gibson and McKissic have looked solid out of the backfield. Both have pulled off some good runs and are threats in the passing game if they can get the ball. However, Washington will be without star guard Brandon Scherff as he is out with a knee injury for 3-5 weeks. If the line can just make a bit of space against this tougher Browns’ front then I think Gibson and McKissic can make plays happen and set up the offense to take shots down the field.

The star of the Washington Football Team has been their defensive line. Chase Young already has 2.5 sacks and the entire line has been stuffing the run consistently. There is an argument to be had that this is the best front 4 in the game and the best pass rush in the game. Both of which will be crucial in this game as to stop the run first Browns’ offense, and to rattle Baker Mayfield so that he is not able to take shots down the field.

Cleveland Browns Analysis

The Browns got their first win of the season against the Bengals last Thursday Night. Baker Mayfield played well, but it was the ground game of Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt that really put the game away and got the Browns their W. However, the team will have to up their game against a formidable Washington defense.

Baker Mayfield will be challenged in this game. In the secondary, the only real playmaker for Washington is Landon Collins. However, it is the fierce pass-rush of the Washington Football Team and their league-leading 11 sacks on the season that Baker should be worried about. He has struggled against pressure in his NFL career and he will be facing a lot of it. Getting the ball out quickly and accurately to his playmakers will be key to keeping the offense on the field during this game.

Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt are a two-headed monster of a backfield. They need to get going if the Browns are going to win, regardless of the opponent. This team does not want to and cannot rely on Baker Mayfield to win the game. This means that slowing down the 4 first-round picks on the defensive line of Washington needs to be the number one priority for Kevin Stefanski and his offensive line. If they can do that and get either Chubb or Hunt going, then their chances of winning the game grow exponentially

Denzel Ward had a great game against AJ Green; Burrow was never able to get into a flow with his best WR and suffered mightily due to it. Ward will most likely be facing off almost every snap against star WR Terry McLaurin. This is the matchup that I would be looking at as a Browns fan on the defensive side of the ball. If Ward shuts down McLaurin, Haskins will not have a good game.

Myles Garrett and Sheldon Richardson will have the duty of making sure that Antonio Gibson and JD McKissic do not get going in this game. Washington should have trouble driving the ball on this Browns’ defense, but if they are given chunk plays on the ground it can easily open up their weaker secondary to big plays by McLaurin, Sims, or Thomas. They did a great job against Joe Mixon in the Bengals game; however, I peg this offensive line to give them a little bit harder of a time.

I actually really like Washington in this game. Every time you see me talking about the Washington Football Team I will be banging the drum to pick them to win if they go against a weak offensive line, with a slower QB or a QB who struggles with pressure. This is that kind of game. The pass rush will affect Baker immensely in this game and they will have to lean on Chubb and Hunt to win it. I think that the running game will be okay for the Browns but not enough to get past Washington.

I like Washington in this game 24-17 over the heavily favored Browns.

Daily Fantasy Picks

Terry McLaurin has another week of being underpriced at $5,900. He is always going to be getting near double-digit targets and he is one of the best WRs in the league. He can do so much with those targets no matter who he is going against. If you do not like what I have to say about my prediction of the game, Vegas sees this as a passing game script for Washington which should make you even more excited about McLaurin.

Logan Thomas at $3,700 could be a sneaky play. He has received 8 and 9 targets in his first two games and is averaging 10.2 fantasy points per game. He has gotten multiple red-zone targets and already has a TD. As a cheaper TE option, I love him in your lineup to spend bigger on RBs.

Washington’s defense at $3,000 could very easily finish as the #1 defense on the week if things go south for Mayfield due to the pressure that this defensive line can bring. The team will get sacks and bring a solid base score, but they already have 4 turnovers on the season and Mayfield is extremely turnover prone. A very good play this week in your defensive slot.
