Washington Football Team vs. San Francisco 49ers Matchup Preview (12/13/20): Betting Odds, Depth Charts, Live Stream (Watch Online)

Two 5-7 teams square off in Arizona this week. The 49ers are playing at the Cardinals stadium as their county put restrictions on sports games being played. Both teams are in the hunt for the playoffs still but the 49ers are dealing with a tougher situation given their division isn’t the NFC East like Washington. A loss for the 49ers would essentially put a nail in the coffin while Washington needs a win to keep pace with the Giants who are also 5-7. Injuries have hit every team hard this season and both Washington and San Francisco are no exception. The 49ers defense has been decimated with injuries and this is only a few times they have had multiple skill position players on the field at the same time. George Kittle also remains out. As for Washington, Antonio Gibson is doubtful this week. This is a major loss as he was on fire over the past few weeks. Vegas projects this to be a close low-scoring game. Washington Football Team Analysis

washington football team 1Without Antonio Gibson this week, Washington is going to have to make up a lot of production. He has 659 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns this season. This is only on 141 attempts. Gibson was also starting to get used in the receiving game more, sitting at 233 yards. We will see a combo of Peyton Barber and JD McKissic this week. McKissic has been the one who has worked a lot in the receiving game. He has 78 targets and is a go-to option for Alex Smith. Terry McLaurin is well on his way to crossing the 100-yard mark in receiving yards this week, which should happen given he is at 977. McLaurin is a major issue for opposing teams and he has played against some solid corners this season. Both him, Logan Thomas, and McKissic should see a bulk of the targets. Defensively, Washington has held teams to just 21.7 points per game but playing in the NFC East helps. This team can get to the quarterback which has masked a couple of issues with their defensive unit. They have held opposing teams to 107 yards per game and just nine rushing touchdowns. That will be the battle to watch with Kyle Shanahan’s offense.

San Francisco 49ers Analysis

San Francisco 49ersWhile the 49ers have gotten some healthy bodies back on the offensive side they are still without Jimmy Garoppolo and George Kittle. Nick Mullens has had the turnover bug with nine interceptions in eight games but has been competent otherwise with a 67% completion percentage and 244.9 yards per game. Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel have both had their share of injuries but when healthy they have not missed a beat. Both have been used in the run games at times but Aiyuk is the leading receiver this season with a 40-541-4 line in nine games. Kendrick Bourne has been a third option but has come up big in games with 447 receiving yards, which ranks third on the team. Defensively this team has struggled against quality opponents but that likely won’t be the case this week against Washington. They don’t have enough firepower to create mismatches. Against the pass this season they have held them to 219 yards per game and 21 touchdowns. They have been solid against the run, allowing just 3.9 yards per carry and only eight rushing touchdowns.

Betting Corner: 49ers -3

Spread: SF -3
Moneyline: WAS +150 / SF -170
Over/Under: 43

San Francisco comes in as field goal favorites this week and are coming off a loss against the Bills. Washington being without Antonio Gibson is a big loss this week and their defense will have to dominate. Washington has played tough and against decent opponents in the last few weeks. They are 6-5-1 ATS this season while the 49ers are 5-7. Neither team has been great this season as quarterback play and injuries continue to be the main reason. I don’t feel comfortable with the spread for either side but I do like the under here at 43. San Francisco’s defense can matchup against these names, while Washington has a strong pass rush to get to Nick Mullens. San Francisco hasn’t had many healthy backs this season. Raheem Mostert has played just six games but when he is healthy he averages 5.1 yards per carry.

Daily Fantasy Picks

There shouldn’t be a ton of interest in this game from a daily fantasy perspective. It has a low total and injuries have piled high for both teams. There are a few skill position players to consider but site matters. JD McKissic will have plenty of targets with Gibson out and on DK that is a plus but not as valuable on FD. Terry McLaurin is who I expect Washington to rely on the most. McLaurin has been a mismatch against a lot of corners and I can’t see anyone slowing him down on San Francisco. McLaurin has averaged 16.4 fantasy points per game over the last seven. On the San Francisco side, Brandon Aiyuk and Raheem Mostert are one-off GPP plays at most. Aiyuk has averaged 16.2 over his last seven healthy games but has a floor of 12.4 in that span. Those are solid numbers.
