Washington Wizards at Boston Celtics 3/1/19: Starting Lineups, Matchup Preview, Betting Odds
Washington Wizards at Boston Celtics Preview
To say the Boston Celtics have been struggling lately would be an understatement. They haven’t had an easy schedule at all, but the Celtics were expected to be one of the top two powers in the East and they could be in jeopardy of dropping further down the Eastern Conference standings if they don’t turn things around. They’ll have an opportunity to do just that as they host the visiting Washington Wizards tonight, who have had their share of struggles and injury woes all year.
Boston is currently 37-25 on the season and on a four-game losing streak. They are currently in fifth place in the East, with 5.5 games separating them and the Brooklyn Nets. The Celtics are 4-6 in their last 10. Washington is 25-36 and 11th in the Eastern Conference. They aren’t ruled out of playoff contention, but they are three games behind the current 8th place team, the Orlando Magic. The Wizards enter tonight’s road game off a win, but they are 3-7 in their last 10 games.

Wizards Analysis
The Wizards snapped a four-game losing streak with a 125-116 win over the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday night. The game was close early, but the Wizards pulled away in the third quarter as they outscored the Nets 33-19. The Nets tried to rally in the fourth, but the damage had already been done.
Bradley Beal had 31 points in the win as he continued on his tear of high-scoring games in February.
“I just want to win,” Beal said. “Whatever it looks like. Sometimes it’s going to involve me scoring 30-plus and some nights I won’t have to. So whatever it looks like, I want to go out there and get it done. I’m super confident right now in my game and I’m just trying to make the playoffs.”
The Wizards certainly have their work cut out for them, but they were able to get contributions from several different players to put the pressure on the Nets that they’ll need to try and duplicate tonight.
Trevor Ariza, who has played well since being traded from Phoenix, finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds, and Thomas Bryant came off the bench for 18 points. Jabari Parker was just shy of scoring in double figures, and had nine points, 14 rebounds and five assists in the game.

Celtics Analysis
The Boston Celtics’ last win came prior to the All-Star break, and while they’ve had a tough slate of games, losing to the Milwaukee Bucks, Toronto Raptors and Portland Trail Blazers, they also lost to the Chicago Bulls.
In their most recent loss to the Trail Blazers, Boston kept it close until Portland rallied in the third quarter behind Damian Lillard.
Kyrie Irving scored 31 points for the Celtics, but he couldn’t carry the Celtics to a win.
“It’s part of the NBA season. You never know,” Irving said. “I’ve been part of two organizations. One where I was in Cleveland, and in 2017 down the stretch we lost a lot of games in a row and ended up sweeping the whole Eastern Conference.”
The Celtics have a lot of work to do if they have any designs on sweeping the Eastern Conference, especially with all of the moves Toronto, Milwaukee and Philadelphia made at the trade deadline. At some point, you expect the Celtics to be able to flip the switch, but they haven’t found the answers yet.
