Week 10 College Football Power Rankings: Ohio State Moves to #2

The college football season is shaping up to have a wild November. A top-10 team seems to be falling every week now. Here are this weeks power rankings.

alabama crimson tide1. Alabama 8-0

last week: Win vs. Arkansas 48-7
this week: Bye

The Tide limited Tua due to precaution, and it didn’t matter. Alabama rolled on Arkansas 48-7. Mac Jones filled in and had an unbelievable game throwing three touchdown passes. Tua vs. Joe Burrow in two weeks to most likely clinch the SEC West, and probably the Heisman in the process is going to be awesome.
ohio state buckeyes

2. Ohio State 8-0

last week: Win vs. Wisconsin 38-7
this week: Bye

Don’t tell SEC fans, but Ohio State might be the most complete team in college football. The only concern might be Justin Fields hanging on to the ball too long, but there really isn’t a flaw with this team. Chase Young had four sacks in the contest and limited the Wisconsin rushing attack to less than 100 yards.
lsu tigers

3. LSU 8-0

last week: Win vs. Auburn 23-20
this week: Bye

Joe Burrow didn’t have his best performance this season, but Clyde Edwards-Helaire helped carry the LSU offense with 136 rushing yards vs. Auburn. Tigers safety Grant Delpit rolled his ankle in the win, and it will be a huge blow to this defense if he can’t go against Bama.
clemson tigers

4. Clemson 8-0

last week: Win vs. Boston College
this week: Vs. Wofford

Clemson is starting to do that thing where they dominate their competition after a slow start to the season. Trevor Lawrence was nearly perfect against Boston College and had three touchdown passes in the contest. The Tigers haven’t allowed more than two touchdowns their last three games.
penn state nittany lions

5. Penn State 8-0

last week: Win at Michigan State 28-7
this week: Bye

The Nittany Lions just keep finding ways to win. They found victories against Iowa and Michigan despite being out gained in yards, then go on the road to Michigan State Saturday and win 28-7. Penn State will be tested again in two weeks from a surprisingly impressive Minnesota team.
georgia bulldogs

6. Georgia 6-1

last week: Bye
this week: At Florida

Georgia vs. Florida next week will most likely decide the SEC East. The Bulldogs don’t look as intimidating since losing to South Carolina. Kyle Trask has been playing great football for the Gators since coming in at quarterback. This game might come down to which defense flinches first.
oregon ducks

7. Oregon 7-1

last week: Win vs. Washington State 37-35
this week: At USC

Oregon has snuck away the last two weeks with undeserving wins. After holding five straight opponents to less than 10 points, they have allowed 66 points and 860 total yards the last two weeks. Justin Herbert has been real deal though. This Ducks team can still sneak their way into the College Football Playoff, but they need help and to start winning convincingly again.
utah utes

8. Utah 7-1

last week: Win vs. Cal 35-0
this week: at Washington

The Utes rolled again this week against a very bad Cal team. They have only allowed 10 points in the month of October. Ever since this team lost to USC, Utah has been on a mission to prove that they are the best team in the Pac-12. They might get their shot against Oregon championship Saturday.
florida gators

9. Florida 7-1

last week: Bye
this week: Vs. Georgia

*See summary under Georgia*
oklahoma sooners

10. Oklahoma 7-1

last week: Loss at Kansas State 48-41
this week: Bye

The Sooners probably just lost their opportunity to go to the College Football Playoff. They had a tough schedule in November, but no one saw this slip up coming against Kansas State. Two turnovers on offense cost Oklahoma this game.
baylor bears

11. Baylor 7-0

last week: Bye
this week: Vs. West Virginia

After Oklahoma’s loss, Baylor finds themselves on top of the Big 12. Their schedule doesn’t help them stay there. The Bears have TCU, Oklahoma, and Texas in November. Baylor has been good, but are they good enough to win the Big 12?
notre dame fighting irish

12. Notre Dame 5-2

last week: Loss vs. Michigan 45-14
this week: Vs. Virginia Tech

The Irish still have five games left, but their season is very much finished after a blowout loss to Michigan. Ian Book was 8-25 for 73 yards in the loss. Yes, it was a monsoon, but Notre Dame was never really in this contest from the beginning. A New Year’s Day bowl is still cool.
minnesota golden gophers

13. Minnesota 8-0

last week: Win vs. Maryland 52-10
this week: Bye

Is Minnesota the team of destiny this year? This was another incredible win for the Gophers. Skeptics may argue their strength of schedule to this point of the season, but after the bye they’ll have to beat Penn State, Iowa, Northwestern, and Wisconsin if they want a shot at the Big Ten Championship game.
michigan wolverines

14. Michigan 6-2

last week: Win vs. Notre Dame 45-14
this week: At Maryland

If Michigan could play every game at home, they would go undefeated every year. There’s something about this teams ability playing in Ann Arbor, and it showed Saturday night against Notre Dame. They have Ohio State at home November 30. Maybe they’ll play spoiler this year.
auburn tigers

15. Auburn 6-2

last week: Loss at LSU 23-20
this week: Vs. Ole Miss

Auburn would be a scary team if Bo Nix wasn’t their quarterback. The freshman was thrown for over 200 yards TWICE this season, and LSU held him to 43 percent passing and only 157 yards. The Tigers are a very good team all around, but the quarterback play has cost them yet again.
wisconsin badgers

16. Wisconsin 6-2

last week: Loss at Ohio State 38-7
this week: Vs. Iowa

In two short weeks, the Badgers have fallen from a College Football Playoff team, to another date with the Outback Bowl. Now, losing to Ohio State is nothing to be ashamed of, but their loss to Illinois last week has now brought the Badgers back to the team their fans know them so well as. One unexpected loss away from possible success.
washington huskies

17. Washington 5-3

last week: Bye
this week: Vs. Utah

The Huskies are another one of those teams that have a lot of potential, but just haven taken some bad losses that hurt them this season. Jacob Eason has been great at quarterback for Washington, and they ranked seventh in offensive S&P+ heading into Saturday. They’ll have another tough test against Utah this Saturday.
texas a&m aggies

18. Texas A&M 5-3

last week: Win vs. Mississippi State 49-30
this week: Vs. UTSA

Another dominant performance by the Aggies this week. Kellen Mond threw for three touchdown passes and the team rushed for over 200 yards. Wouldn’t it be interesting if Texas A&M was still in the Big 12 and not the SEC West?
iowa state cyclones

19. Iowa State 5-3

last week: Loss vs. Oklahoma State 34-27
this week: Bye

Brock Purdy failed to cover the spread for the first time in October in his career. His three interceptions in the loss as Oklahoma State looked very good defensively. The Cyclones have a week off before having to take on an upset Oklahoma team in two weeks.
texas longhorns

20. Texas 5-3

last week: Loss at TCU 37-27
this week: Bye

What an ugly game for the Longhorns. Sam Ehlinger threw four interceptions in their loss. Turning the ball over four times is bad enough, and it’s even worse when you have a defense as bad as Texas. They have allowed 6.4 yards per play this season, second worst in the Big 12. So much for Texas being back.
iowa hawkeyes

21. Iowa 6-2

last week: Win vs. Northwestern 20-0
this week: Bye

Iowa is just the stereotypical Big Ten team that suffocates teams on offense as they struggle to put up 20 points of their own. They have an extra week to prepare for Wisconsin in two weeks. This game will come decide what team gets a shot to challenge Minnesota for the Big Ten West. No pressure.
usc trojans

22. USC 5-3

last week: Win at Colorado 35-31
this week: vs. Oregon

USC still recruits the talent to hang with anyone. They just can’t find the coaching. Kendon Slovis threw for over 400 yards and four touchdowns in the win over Colorado last Thursday night. Slovis has the ability to keep the Trojans in the game next week against Oregon. They also hold the tie breaker over Utah if both teams win out.
smu mustangs

23. SMU 8-0

last week: Win at Houston 34-31
this week: At Memphis

Undefeated SMU has finally shown themselves in the power rankings! This is the best start the Mustangs have had since the Pony Express. Shane Buechele has been incredible for this team, and a big part of the reason why they’re still 8-0. SMU has a huge showdown against Memphis next week.

24. UCF 6-2

last week: Win at Temple 63-21
this week: vs. Houston

Despite their two losses, UCF has been playing really good football. The Knights still have a ton of talent on this team, it’s obviously hard to prove that they’re good when their toughest game is Cincinnati – which ended in a loss.
1200px Memphis Tigers logo

25. Memphis 8-0

last week: Win at Tulsa 42-21
this week: Vs. SMU

This Memphis team is sneaky good coming out of the American conference. They did almost lose to Tulsa in a look ahead spot vs. SMU next week, but this team will be ready to against the Mustangs. Brady White has been excellent at quarterback.
