Week 10 QB Start, Sit: Quarterback Fantasy Football Strategy

Week nine was one of the most productive fantasy weeks for quarterbacks this season. Dual-threat QBs Kyler Murray, Russell Wilson, and Lamar Jackson all found themselves in the top six in terms of overall point production. Surprisingly, even low-end QBs, like Ryan Fitzpatrick and Ryan Tannehill, who don’t usually find themselves in the top ten for fantasy points, were able to do so this past weekend. Unfortunately, fantasy owners who started Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Sam Darnold, and Gardner Minshew woke up Monday morning regretting their decisions. Start ‘em

lamar jackson

Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens

Opponent: Cincinnati Bengals
Lamar Jackson is a must-start QB1 option against the Bengals in week ten. Jackson is coming off an epic game in which he shredded the most daunting defense in the NFL and recorded 28.62 points. Jackson is presently leading all Ravens players in terms of rushing yards this year, which bolds well, considering that Cincinnati has allowed the most rushing yards per game this season. You should expect Lamar to get a larger number of carries than he normally does. Cincinnati is also surrendering the 11th most passing yards to opposing offenses this year, so look for Lamar Jackson to see quality passing production as well, especially when the play-action game opens up.

Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints

Opponent: Atlanta Falcons
In the two full games that Drew Brees has played this season, he has scored 20+ points, thrown for over 370+ yards, and scored 2+ TDs in each contest. Brees is going against a battered Atlanta Falcons secondary that is currently allowing the tenth most passing yards to opposing teams per game. Even more promising, the Falcons are surrendering the third-most Fantasy points to QBs. The Falcons are a demoralized 1-7 team, so look for Brees to continue his productive season.

Phillip Rivers, Los Angeles Chargers

Opponent: Oakland Raiders
After being listed as a Sit ’em candidate last week, Phillip Rivers finds himself on the opposite end of the Quarterback Fantasy Football Strategy list. Rivers heads to Oakland this Thursday to take on a Raiders defense that currently allows 25 points per game to QBs. Rivers has thrown for 290+ yards in three of his last four games but has exhibited low point totals the past two weeks given his difficulty to record TDs. However, the Raiders are currently allowing the second-most passing TDs this season, so expect Rivers to have one of his more productive games in week ten.

Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals

Opponent: Tampa Bay Buccaneers
According to Yahoo Fantasy Football, Kyler Murray has recorded the tenth-most fantasy points of any player in the NFL this season. After experiencing a two-game slump in which Murray averaged less than nine points per game, the former Sooner excelled for 23.04 points against a stingy Niners unit. This week, Murray heads to Tampa Bay to take on a Bucs unit that is allowing the fourth-most passing touchdowns and fantasy points to QBs. Look for Murray to see most of his production through the air given the fact that the Buccaneers are allowing the sixth-fewest rushing yards to opposing QBs this year.

Risky Picks

Russell Wilson

Russell Wilson, Seattle Seahawks

Opponent: San Francisco 49ers
Any fantasy owner who has Russell Wilson is facing a big predicament this week. Despite being ranked as the best quarterback in Fantasy Football, Wilson is going against a San Francisco 49ers defensive squad, which is a second-best defense in the National Football League. The Niners have been domineering against opposing QBs, limiting the success of Jared Goff, Baker Mayfield, and Kyle Allen. Although, their inability to contain Kyler Murray last week indicates that the Niners have a weakness against dual-threat QBs like Wilson. Wilson is still viable to put up modest production, but Fantasy owners should prepare themselves for one of Wilson’s worse outings.
jameis winston

Jameis Winston, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Opponent: Arizona Cardinals
Jameis Winston is one of the most volatile fantasy players in the league. While Winston currently ranks seventh in terms of passing yards amongst all quarterbacks, he also is tied for the most interceptions in the league. Winston heads into week ten with a favorable matchup against a Cardinals defense that is allowing 26 fantasy points to QBs per game, which is most in the NFL. Winston has thrown for 300+ yards in three straight games and 2+ TDs in five of his last six games, but his tendency to throw errant passes to the other team will always make him an incredibly risky fantasy option.

Sit ‘em

Jared Goff

Jared Goff, Los Angeles Rams

Opponent: Pittsburgh Steelers
Jared Goff is extremely inconsistent QB, whose fantasy production is heavily reliant on the matchups he faces. Against defenses that allow the tenth-most fantasy points to QBs, Goff has had 20+ point performances in all of those contests. On the other hand, Goff struggles immensely against teams that are the 15th-most restrictive in terms of QB fantasy points. The Steelers currently limit signal-callers to the tenth fewest points per game, so look for Goff to score less than 12 points on Sunday.
Kirk Cousins

Kirk Cousins, Minnesota Vikings

Opponent: Dallas Cowboys
Similar to Jared Goff, Kirk Cousins is a quarterback that is heavily reliant on his matchup. All of Cousins’ 20+ point outings have come against shoddy secondaries such as the Eagles, Giants, and Chiefs. Although last week against the Chiefs, Cousins missed several throws that could’ve increased his fantasy production. When Kirk plays teams like the Packers and Bears that rank in the top ten in terms of limiting QB fantasy points, he has failed to accumulate eleven or more points. The Cowboys are a stingy team, whose secondary is allowing the sixth-fewest passing yards to opposing QBs, so Cousins is likely to regress into a low-end QB2 option.
baker mayfield

Baker Mayfield, Cleveland Browns

Opponent: Buffalo Bills
If you haven’t cut ties with Baker Mayfield yet, the chances are that you are playing in one of the deepest fantasy leagues available. Nevertheless, Mayfield owners should look to bench the Browns signal-caller in week ten against the Buffalo Bills. The Bills are currently restricting QBs to the 4th fewest points per game, which does not bold well for Mayfield, who has only recorded 20+ points once this season. Given that three of Mayfield’s next four opponents are teams that rank in the top ten in terms of limiting QB fantasy points, Mayfield owners should abandon ship.

Kyle Allen, Carolina Panthers

Opponent: Green Bay Packers
According to ESPN Fantasy Football, Kyle Allen is ranked as the 30th most productive QB in terms of points per game. Despite his skills as a game manager, Allen is an underwhelming fantasy QB, who has failed to throw for 300 or more yards this year. Furthermore, Allen is already tied for the seventh most fumbles in the NFL, even though he has only played six games. The Packers defense restricts QBs to the eighth fewest points per game, so Allen’s fantasy owners should look elsewhere in week ten.
