Week 12 College Football Power Rankings, LSU Knocks Off Alabama

Ohio State is the new number 1 in this weeks power rankings. LSU knocked off Alabama on the road, and Minnesota makes a statement in their win against Penn State.

1. Ohio State 9-0

last week: Win vs. Maryland 73-14
next week: At Rutgers
The Buckeyes didn’t need chase young in their win against Maryland. Ohio State had 705 total yards in their victory with 383 coming on the ground, and held Maryland to 139 total yards of offense. Ohio State may walk their way to the top seed in the playoff.
lsu tigers

2. LSU 9-0

last week: Win at Alabama 46-41
next week: At Ole Miss
LSU got off to a big lead in the first half and din’t look back. Joe Burrow threw for three touchdowns in the win, and pretty much wrapped up his Heisman case. Clyde Edwards-Helaire was the x-factor against Alabama scoring four touchdowns.

3. Clemson 10-0

last week: Win at NC State 55-10
next week: Vs. Clemson
Clemson becomes the first team to 10 wins this season. Although their schedule is weak, they continue to dominate every team that is in their path. They will most definitely make the College Football Playoff where everyone will see how real this team is.
alabama crimson tide

4. Alabama 8-1

last week: Loss vs. LSU 46-41
next week: At Mississippi State
The Tide shot themselves in the foot in the first half against LSU. Two turnovers allowed the Tigers to go up 20 at halftime, and that was all they needed to keep Alabama out of distance. Tua Tagovailoa still had a big game despite being immobile, throwing for over 400 passing yards.
georgia bulldogs

5. Georgia 8-1

last week: Win vs. Mizzou 27-0
next week: At Auburn
The Bulldogs defense held Mizzou to 198 yards of offense in their shutout. Georgia controls their destiny yet again, but the Jake Fromm put up unimpressive numbers as his play could have an impact on their season.
oregon ducks

6. Oregon 8-1

last week: Bye
next week: Vs. Arizona
The Ducks made a statement last week against USC. Justin Herbert is trying to carry this team to a College Football Playoff appearance, but will need some help to get there. They have Arizona, Arizona St, and Oregon St before the Pac-12 Championship game.

7. Utah 8-1

last week: Bye
next week: Vs. Utah
The Utes finishing up the season with UCLA, Arizona, and Colorado will most likely give them the nod in the Pac-12 Championship game against Oregon. Utah looked impressive against Washington last week, and will want to show everyone that they’re the best team in the Pac-12.

8. Penn State 8-1

last week: Loss at Minnesota 31-26
next week: Vs. Indiana
Sean Clifford threw three interceptions in their loss to Minnesota. The Nittany Lions pass defense had no answer to the Gophers passing attack. A Penn State loss was due after being outplayed by Iowa and Michigan, and then needing turnover luck to beat Sparty.
oklahoma sooners

9. Oklahoma 8-1

last week: Win vs. Iowa State 42-41
next week: At Baylor
The Sooners almost blew a 21-point fourth quarter lead as Iowa State came roaring back in their contest. Oklahoma did survive after stopping a 2-point conversion attempt with less than a minute left in the game.
minnesota golden gophers

10. Minnesota 9-0

last week: Win vs. Penn State 31-26
next week: at Iowa
Have a day Tanner Morgan! The Gophers knocked off four seed Penn State at home as he completed 90 percent of his passes and threw for 339 yards and three touchdowns. Minnesota is legit, and have another tough battle between Iowa next week.

11. Florida 8-2

last week: Win vs. Vanderbilt 56-0
next week: At Mizzou
The Gators took their frustration out on Vanderbilt after their loss to Georgia last week. Florida held Vandy to 128 yards of offense in their win. Florida can still enjoy a New Years Day bowl.
baylor bears

12. Baylor 9-0

last week: Win at TCU 29-23
next week: Vs. Oklahoma
Thoughts and prayers to anyone who bet under 49 in this game. No touchdowns were scored in regulation, but Baylor kicked a 51-yard field goal at the end of regulation to send it to overtime where the Bears ultimately won.
michigan wolverines

13. Michigan 7-2

last week: Bye
next week: Vs. Michigan State
Michigan gets their instate rival Michigan State next week at home. The Wolverines are a much different team in Ann Arbor, and will want to make it three wins in four years over their little brother.
notre dame fighting irish

14. Notre Dame 7-2

last week: Win at Duke 38-7
next week: Vs. Navy
Notre Dame continues to beat up mediocre teams. The Irish did have 288 rushing yards in their win. Next week will be interesting to see how Notre Dame does against a very good Navy triple option.
auburn tigers

15. Auburn 7-2

last week: Bye
next week: Vs. Georgia
The Tigers get Georgia off their bye week. This will be another competitive SEC game, but the question becomes how does Bo Nix blow it for Auburn?
wisconsin badgers

16. Wisconsin 7-2

last week: Win vs. Iowa 24-22
next week: At Nebraska
Wisconsin snaps their two game losing streak against Iowa on Saturday. The Hawkeyes have a very good defense, but the Badgers were still able to rush for 300 yards. The Big Ten East might come down to their final game against Minnesota.

last week: Bye
next week: Vs. South Carolina
The Aggies finish off the schedule with South Carolina, Georgia, and LSU. Maybe they can play spoiler this year and knock one of their own out of a playoff spot.

last week: Win at Oregon State 19-7
next week: Bye
Jacob Eason had a horrible game against the Beavers, but Washington still found a way to get the win at Oregon St. This was a much needed win for the Huskies after back to back home losses to Oregon and Utah.
iowa state cyclones

19. Iowa State 5-4

last week: Loss at Oklahoma 42-41
next week: Vs. Texas
The Cyclones almost pulled off the comeback victory over Oklahoma. Their decision to go for two at the end of the game is very respectable to try and knock off the Sooners at home.

20. Texas 6-3

last week: Win vs. Kansas State 27-24
next week: At Iowa State
After going down 14-0, Texas came back and beat Kansas State on a game-winning field goal. The Longhorns defense was much improved in this game as they held Kansas State to 304 yards of offese.

Memphis had an impressive win over SMU at the teams combined for 102 points. The Tigers need to hope that Navy falls in one of their last conference games so they have a shot at playing in the conference championship game.

Oklahoma State has been up and down this season. Can they finish strong with Kansas, West Virginia, and Oklahoma on their schedule?

Miami has won five of their last six games. This team is still very talented and finally turned a corner on their season, and could have been ranked higher if they didn’t get off to such a slow start.
iowa hawkeyes

24. Iowa 6-3

last week: Loss at Wisconsin 24-22
next week: Vs. Minnesota
The Hawkeyes will not have a chance at the Big Ten Championship game after their loss to Wisconsin. Their offense hasn’t been consistent this year and it has cost them in big games against Penn State, Michigan, and now Wisconsin.
cincinnati bearcats

25. Cincinnati 8-1

last week: Win vs. UConn 48-3
next week: At South Florida
Cincinnati has been playing great football all year. They’re a quiet 8-1 with their only loss coming to Ohio State and have a win over UCF. Desmond Ridder has been great at quarterback this season.
